Lug nut torque
I read the archives on making sure the torque on the lug nuts are set at factory specs - 94 ft/lbs and to make sure to re-torque after a long trip, etc. I just bought a set of locking lug nuts for my new wheels from Performance Products. It was the only polished locks for the 993 in their catalog. But the instructions states to not go beyond 50 ft/lbs. Does having one lug nut at 50 ft/lbs and the rest at 95 ft/lbs really damage your wheel/tire or rotor? According to their tech support - no...but then he doesn't own a 993. Thanks for any help!

Personally, if they can't be torqued to the factory rec 94-96 ft lbs to match the other 4, I wouldn't use them on my car. Apart from unequal torques which are not good & the greater possibility of it getting loose, what does that tell you about the strength of the material used for the lock?
BTW, I've never owned a car that had recs of lug nut torques below 50 ft lbs.

I agree with Dan - I think I'd just pass on the locks, unless you can find some without that requirement. Are those OEM locks? I think I have some OEM ones I'm not using (not sure if they have any max torque)...

I still have my black OEM lug nuts from my targa wheels but had a tough time finding plished locks.

Hey Jonathan,
I actually do not have locks on my wheels. I am using the "black chrome" lugs from Ralph Boothe. You might try wheelenhancement for chrome locks.

The PO of my car used some aftermarket locking nuts and just before I picked the car up the dealer rang to say that they had become threaded on one wheel and they had to drill it out, thankfully it was on the horrible 18" rims that were being used while the 17" cups were being re-done. What a mess not to mention the delay while they changed the stud, don't chance it!
Having said all that I never check my wheel nuts; I'd better go and buy myself a torque wrench!
