OG, that price sounds about right. I got mine at the same time as a "cold air intake", which is a huge intake tube plus giant cone filter, which I just know would make the fast and furioiuis crowd jealous. Anyway, it was about $1000 installed.

As to what type of vehicle one "should" drive, I'm from Mississippi, so driving a pickup is probably part of my DNA.

No offense but the allison trannies don't mean much. I watched my brother in law pull a brand new truck exactly like yours(cept dually) with his stroker(also dually) in 4-low in a field. They hooked a tow strap to them and both went in 4-low, at the end, the cheby's tires were going the wrong way the truck was. Boy did it smell like burnt clutches. Poor cheby boy got ripped a new ****. (Yes many variables in the situation, but we had the disadvantage with completly bald tires.)

After that we got threated to our ****'s beat because we where the only Ford guys there

At any rate, congrats on the new purcahse.

Wes-> Ford must like the allisons they are using them next year. The Chevy has 35 more foot pounds of torque and had better financing. When it comes to American cars best deal wins with me!!Plus with the Ford the 250/350 looks like they copied Dodge. AND if you chip it, you can only get 115 Hp and 290 foot pounds of torque with the ford but you get 175 more HP and 350 footpounds of torque in the Chevy, The duramax seems to have MUCH more potential. With ford you end up with 445 HP and 850 foot pounds wheras with Chevy you end up with a montsrous 485 Hp with 940 foot pounds of torque (please follow your owners manual and mod you tranny to handle it all!!) but thanks anyways.

Default Link to Diesel Fanatics

Here is a link to some savvy diesel guys. As I and others have posted I'm really happy with the 520 foot pound model of GMC Duramax. The new ones have 590 foot pounds. I tow my travel trailer with 2 other buddies who use the old Powerstroke 7.1 litre and I can tell you that my 02 Duramax really pulls away towing a trailer uphill against an 02 Powerstoke.
For those who don't own a truck with the Allison 5 speed automatic it is my experience that it is the best transmission available for towing by a long shot.
We used our GMC towing a trailer over 4000 miles last year and found it to be a great improvement over our previous 454 gas, 4L80E transmission 1997 Chevy supercab.
Some friends run a chip, K&N, etc. I like stock. I abuse my truck enough already towing my trailer and my boat at excessive speeds. Plus the dealer will fix it for the first 100,000 miles.

Hey OG
I'll be coming by to drive yours soon. My gas Vortec pulls stong and can pass anything but a gas station or a diesel. Just drove 1250 miles up the coast the past 2 days. My best stretch of mileage was 10 mpg on the flats(62 or 63 mph) worst was 4 MPG! (70-73 mph up and down hills) average about 6.5 mpg. I doubt I could do better than 9 mpg tailgating truckers at 58. Doing some quick math - I think I'd need to log 5000 towing miles per year for 4 or 5 years to justify a diesel expenditure. But since this IS Rennlist........who needs to justify automotive expenses
