Default Guards Red owners

My '95 Guards Red paint seems a little dull lately. I'm an old time zaino user, but I think this may not be the best wax/solution for the non-clear coat guards red. What wax is everybody using for guards red to make it pop?

I've seen some pretty nice guards red 993s, and I don't think they're using zaino.

Wax will only protect your paint. If your paint is faded or has swirl marks (ultra fine scratches from washing, dust, etc) you'll probably need to use a clay bar and some sort of super fine cut auto polish/swirl mark remover before your layer of wax. The clay bar will remove microscopic crap stuck to the surface of your paint, the polish will actually eat away the thin layer of oxidized/scratched paint on the surface, and then the wax will protect it.

Lately I've gone over to Zaino, seems to work great for me. I did use the clay bar, and stripped the old wax. Used multiple coats on the first day. The finish looks better now but this shot was after the first application and before I replaced the 4X4 suspension. As mentioned, did you try the clay bar first?

For my GR car, I've been using (after a thorough wash)

1. Meguiars Clay + Spray
2. 3M glaze
3. One Grand Blitz wax.

Works well enough and I get the depth I'm so far happy with.

I may have to try this Rejex stuff though.

Enjoy the recipe

Definitely clay the car, then buff it with an orbital polisher and 3M machine glaze or equivalent. Then use zymol or zaino as you prefer. Voila! Drive and enjoy

As far as I'm concerned, the type of wax I use is less important than prepping the paint for waxing. Definitely clay the car after a good wash and make sure the clay is turned constantly. The small particles that it picks up will, for sure, scratch our non-clearcoated paint. If the car hasn't been clayed regularly, it will likely have quite a bit of imbedded dirt so scratching is inevitable. No matter since orbital polishing will take care of those as the next step. After the paint is smooth and scratch free, then I put on any good quality wax. I've used Zymol, and Meguiar's and have been satisfied. However, I recently used Meguiar's NXT wax as seen in the photos below and was surprised with the results. I'll probably keep using it until something else comes along.

First let me get this out of the way:
jdoc, I WANT YOUR RIMS...your car is SIZZLING HOT!!!
...whew, thanks.

Scott,
I have never clayed, but the results I've seen are brilliant. If your paint doesn't "pop," I'd definitely recommend it, or polishing with a good, fine compound (I've used Meguiars products for a long time and like them a lot, FWIW). After the polish (or clay), follow up with 3M Hand Glaze. This really adds depth to the finish. Then, a good wax...I use P21S. You don't have to do all these steps everytime. Once done, keeping it looking good is easier. I haven't converted to any of the Zaino religion, simply because I like the results I get, and I constantly get positive comments about how my red looks deep and vivid. Whatever method you choose, put in a bit of effort and you'll love the results.

Edward

Okay, the clay bars have it!
Mark, loving the RS bars. During the adjustment to a lower height, even with Gert's FPB I did manage a little crease underneath on the left side, right about where a splitter would have been. Guess that isn't on my list of mods anytime soon.

I'm glad you're happy, Joe, but sorry your valance panel took a hit. You must have hit a rough driveway transition.

I love your cab. You did a nice job dressin er up with zaino. However, the shot was nice but just needed a little cleaning up itself, IMHO. So... your beautiful cab is now been given the background it deserves. Hope you like it.

Oh, and by the way, I just love that hot sizzlin red number mit dem vheels, wow.

And... clay bar is great, gotta use it, sent from heaven. Also, I use 3m swirl and mark remover, then I use the 3m glaze, then pick your wax. Check out the group buy thread on Rejex (or however it is spelled). Guys are raving and I bought a bottle to try. Will let you guys know the results.

solsrch,
I just noticed that you have no avtar. I have reduced the file so that it is ready for you to insert as your avtar, if you are so inclined.

1.) Wash car
2.) Clay bar
3.) PC set to 5. Meguiars dual action cleaning polish
4.) PC set to 2. Meguiars NXT Generation wax
5.) P21S Carnauba/beeswax wax by hand

I use the Costco yellow microfiber towels to dry the car and wipe all products off my car.

ASG,
Well that looks better! My life/driveway/front yard, is normally a crowded place but this is a big improvement. Now, if you could just make all the clutter disappear from my house .
BTW, with any luck you are seeing my newly adopted avatar. What can I say? Most of the ones I like have featured young scantily clad women. Your proposed avatar spoke to me though. Thanks for your time!

My pleasure. I always notice a potentially nice photo and can't help but make it what it should be. However, it does have to have a Porsche in the picture.
Anyway, I love cabs and yours looked so nice, I couldn't resist, especially considering you had no avtar. So... glad you like it.
