Jim, I did a TT conversion at my home. It was really very simple. You want to get the TT harness if possible along with the DME of course. The harness is not absolutely necessary as the only differences are the NA harness has 2 circuits for the dual distributor and the TT only has one. the TT harness however uses an additional circuit for the wastegate if I rmember correctly so You can change the pins on a NA harness to use the spare distributor circuit for the wastegate. The TT will fit easily into a narrow or widebody 993 , makes no difference. the most important thing to remember is that when plugging a TT into a NA car You must jumper the #26 fuse to get the fuel pump to kick on when the key is turned on. Took us about 6 hours to put the whole thing in and we stuck a GT2 clutch , FW and PP in there in the process. One of the easiest painless projects I have ever done.

But what year was the car? I have heard a 95 would be much harder to convert than an OBDII car. Is this correct?

No, its irrelevant as long as You get the harness. the 95 and 96 harness are completely different as is the pin count on the DME. Alll You have to do is get the new (TT) harness and DME with the drivetrain.

Thanks guys, I just sent this guy a pm. The car my customer has was stolen and stripped. Sometimes it's better if you don't get the car back.

Do you have a general idea on what to expect to pay for a 993 TT engine? How about it's computer?

Thanks in advance...

I paid 22K for a TT motor, trans, DME and harness with 12k miles on it. It was the full deal from DME to exhaust tip so that obvioulsy makes the conversion a bunch easier if You can get all the pieces. I looked for over a year to find the right one and went ahead and paid the asking price as it was all it was represented to be. Hope that helps and feel free to let me know if You need help. I purchased mine from Todd and Sara at LA Porsche.

Unhappy 993 Engine

Kim, others,

Sadly it is me, I have an add in the classifieds. I had a very nice 35k mile 97 (US spec car) which I intended to own for a long time. I brought the car to Germany, as I am on a two year assignment here, and intended the car to return to the US in '06. However, it was damaged front and rear in a hydroplaning event that terminated in the center barrier during last May. The RH muffler took a hit but the engine compartment in tact and the engine ran after the accident. (Cat maybe bent according to insurance estimate.)

The car is repairable but the factory recommended that financially and practically it made more sense not to do so. So, I have chosen to part out. I want the engine and transmission to go first, I'd ask the dealer to dismount it from the car as it still sits in their bodyshop. Than I will repatriate the wreck to my garage and other parts will come up for sale as I take it apart.

When I bought the car I covered 2500 miles in three days and noticed no oil consumption upon arrival. It was inspected at a reputable porsche specialist in CO and then again in MD, I can give you the references. I'll throw in the harness and the DME and help arrange the shipping. PM me if interested.

Default Decided to split, price for package US TT Euro 13,500

Seems not many takers for a combo package, I've decided to split it. TT Engine US spec, Euro 13,500. In today's Fx that is just over 16k for a perfectly good TT engine!

SLVR97TT - I'd be interested in your tachometer with OBC. I can have a friend in Germany transfer the money and you can ship to him - he'll be sending me a box of goodies later on anyway.
Please let me know.

Thanks!

slvr97tt - I'd love to know what you are looking to sell the sport seats for?

Sorry about your loss, but it is a testament to the quality of these cars that it sacrificed itself for you.
