Post replacement schedule for cv boots?

What's the interval for replacing the cv boots, and repacking with grease? I've heard its good to do it every 5 years, and some say to wait to see cracking. Any opinions?

Thanks,
David

Wink

I alwyas wait till they break, then replace the boot, CV joint and (natch) grease. Generally 100K miles unless something adverse happens.

I just replaced the left side a couple of weeks ago. I was prepping for a track weekend and found the insode of the rear wheel lined with gook, then spied a crack in the outer CV joint boot. I had both boots replaced on that side, and the CV was repacked with synthetic grease. BTW, I have 63K on the car.
The other side looks ok, but my mechanic, an independent who is an avid SCCA racer, says cars driven at high speed (e.g. the track) plus aging boots will crack sooner than a car driven solely on the road. Still, I wouldn't replace them unless I had cracks.
