Warning to Newbies: The 993 "mod" virus
What Porsche forgot to warn you, is that buying a Porsche, especially a 993, subjects you the the deadly (for your wallet) 993 "mod" bug. Most Rennlisters have caught it to one degree or another. Some of us got it real bad. I used to have a '94 993 C2. If you want to see what can happen to you, take a look at this:
Morping a Silver 993 C2 in to Speed a Yellow 993 RS
Many others on this board can tell you similar stories..

No, no guys. I am going to show strength of character (why did I even have to install mechanical lifters for Pete's sake... ) and keep my new car (practically) stock.

Yeah, it is worse than I thought actually. It is the famed "air-cooled" virus (just remember I had it on my 911 SC, where I did almost as much as with the 993 - but no repaint....)

Oh man, I've had this disease bad. Started out with a Carrera that actually did need sorting out. Two years and $7k in parts (DIY'ed all labor) later, I got tired of it and figured a clean 993 would keep me from doing mods. How wrong I was! My 993 was PERFECT when I got it and I've dumped more into it in one year than I did into the Carrera that actually needed it. I think my sickness is headed into remission though, as my to-do list is just about done. Now I'm thinking of buying a beater SC to keep me busy again.

That is the most thoroughly undertaken color change I have ever seen on a modern car. Holy ****. My checkbook hurts just to look at it. Hard to argue with the end result though.
I wear a 'SARS' mask when I read the Rennlist. Seems to be working, as my car is still stock.

Yes...it's a disease and it seems to spread quickly...and seems almost unavoidable in catching...
For me, I got the car 3 months or so ago...then a new PSS9 set-up, last month, a new Silver badge, new clear corners are coming in 2 days...soon..I'll be getting 18' rims and tires, a new shifter, and some of Robin's RSR's
At this rate...I'll probably need to factor a new home into my mod list too since my wife will be kicking me out of my existing home...lol ... lucky I can always fall back on the fact that it was HER idea to get the car in the first place...I tried to warn her about the car purchase as only the START of many things to come...hehe
I think we all need to go and see Dr. Bob...ViperBob that is...for a quick dose of therapy....er...hmmm...maybe that isn't such a good idea...
Put it this way...all this money on this board spent on cars...it could be worse...at least it's still legal!!
Take Care All!!
Cheers!

The only cure for the mod virus is to let the virus takes its course.
One euro front bumper, euro turn signals, turbo s ducts, Gert's FPB, 3 spoke steering wheel, silver crests, new windshield, PSS9's, polished wheels then HRE's, RSR's later on the C4S led to a TT.
Now I am onto the euro front bumper, euro turn signals, turbo s ducts, Gert's FPB, 3 spoke steering wheel, silver crests, PSS9's, LWF, clutch, Recaro Pole Positions, 3 sets of wheels, GHL muffler bypasses on the TT. Unfortunately, this is only the tip of the iceberg.
Man, I need to see a doctor! Anyone know how to get in touch with Dr. Lincoln?

The only thing that slowed down the mod process on the 993 was when I bought the 944 to build into a race car...I don't have enough time or $$$ to do both at the same time. Need to save some time to work to pay for all of the mods...

yeah.. and what's worse is the mod expenses get exponentially worse as you become a better driver at the track...
...we both just crossed that barrier and are eating through race rubber, brake pads, etc. now because we suddenly got to that 'next level' ARG!!!!
This year alone I've invested in:
-Harness Truss (Already upgraded to DAS BAR 3 months later)
-2 full sets of MPSCs
-2 sets of pads (yeah, I know, next time Pagids)
-ECU upgrade
-supercups/Fabspeed and 100cell cats
...and going in this weekend are a pair of brand new Pole Position seats!!!
If I add up just this YEAR I'm already past the $6k marker
