Default Parts supplier - other than dealership

Read the DIY on P-Car on converting the switchblade remote to the a regular key with the remote as a separate piece.

Wrote down the part #'s - on p-car it says that each should cost about $17. Went to my local Porsche dealer to get the parts and when he was ringing them up I saw that the cost of the remote housing was $60. I told him he must have accidentally charged me for the part that also includes the transmitter - he said "no, with the transmitter it's $119".

I'm dumbfounded - the whole thing was literally two pieces of cheap plastic that could cost no more than $.60 to make - and they're charging $60?

Was the dealer mistaken on the price?

Nevertheless, I'm looking for any parts suppliers that might sell something like this. Any recommendations? TIA.

Hmmm... Dealer only parts??? Gert.....

Almost any other parts - click on the Rennlist Sponsors above... All of them support this site - which is why you are reading this post at all....

Any other suggestions outside the sponsors don't support this site - so you are reading this "in spite of them", not "because of them"...

Just my $0.0002

I submitted a price request to Sunset Imports - they claim they sell all Porsche & Audi parts at dealer cost. In addition, Dan - the guy who posted the original DIY on p-car - recommended them. When I hear back from them I'll post the price.

there's a dealership in washington called Sunset Porsche. Although they are a dealer, their prices are usually pretty with the market if not the same (maybe better?) and usually always better than other dealers.

also, www.ladismantlers.com, although i've never used them before, have some decent prices for parts that they took out from totalled cars

In the DC area the local dealers charge a premium over list cost, so the difference between them and Sunset or Suncoast can be huge. Makes the shipping cost and the wait for parts seem trivial.

Srgo,

If you want a dealership that is closer to buy parts from, call Autoplace Porsche in Williamsville (Buffalo), NY. Phone number is 716-633-5200 and the Porsche parts guy is Dan Gabamonte. He will sell you at 10-15% over dealership cost. Tell him you want the Mike Cap Italian "brotherhood" price level.

Yeah, the Stealership here on the west coast wanted to charge $250... they said it included the programming of the remote...

I ended up buying it on ebay for $21.

Sunsetparts just quoted me $41 for the housing and $12.50 for the key head plus shipping. That's a hell of a lot better than the $60 the dealer wanted for the housing. But man oh man $41 is a lot of money for a cheap piece of plastic that probably costs $.50 to manufacture.

Have you tried pricing the housing at Pelican Parts? When I bought mine from them, I think it was less than what you were quoted from Sunset, but I can't remember.

Just go to their website and plug in the part# in the search feature.

good luck!

John-

You bring up a great point. Perhaps the sponsor link above is a bit too subtle. Truth be known, I didn't see it till you pointed it out and I've been around here awhile. Perhaps a bigger picture link type of thingy on the top or bottom of each screen? After all, they do pay the bills. Much better than separate ads on each screen.

you... subtle...
