Looking for a rear center reflector for my '97 Targa, as the dealer says no to replacing it under my "preowned certified" warranty. It has a great deal of condensation inside it, most visible at the reverse lights bilaterally. Any leads appreciated. Thanks.

fevan, you can remove the reflector, get a q-tip and remove the condensation. If it is discolored like mine was, you can use alcohol or nail polish remover on the tip of the q-tip.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. Is this assembly not airtight? I know the headlights aren't, but couldn't find much about the reflector by searching. Did see your older post - you did replace yours? And will I need to reseal the unit when reinstalling?
Thanks much.
Thanks much.

The lightbulb seal locks into the reflector. Although I would imagine the seal is fairly tight, probably not airtight. I cleaned mine first but could not get all of the discoloration out so I eventually replaced it. I think you can find them on ebay for around $150.

I also have some discoloration at the reverse lights - and probably elsewhere, it's just that it's white in that location. David, a used one in good condition would be fine, as long as the savings are worth it vs. new. And, Frank, thanks for the referral.

You are welcome and I agree. I almost purchased a clean looking used one off of eBay and then called Sunset Porsche (Rennlist & PCA members get dealer cost + 15% handling charge & shipping vie Fedex ground is the cheapest w/great service IMHO), their qouate was almost $20.00 less than the starting bid!

The problem with these reflectors is the mastic joint between the red and black plastic. It breaks down over the years and water can then penetrate.
I fixed mine by removing it and drying out fully in a warm environment for a few days. Applied two lines of masking tape one either side of the joint and applied a line of automotive mastic with a mastic gun, smoothed off with a wet pallet knife to force into failures in the original mastic and to give a neat finish. Allowed to cure and re fitted. No more problems in around 12 months.A cheap fix if your unit is in good shape.
