Question Update Alternator Pulley or not

I'm on original alternator pulley on my 95 993. There was a TSB to update pulley system, to avoid premature belt wear and eventual belt breakage.

My question: I'm taking my car in for various small issues, and am wondering if I should update the pulley, even though I've never had any problems, whatsoever.

I track several times a year, and car has 98k miles. Original pulley shown below.

Any thoughts/comments greatly appreciated

I would change the pulley at the same as the belts when they need replacing.

Hi Viken, thanks for your feedback..

My belt's got 10k miles on it. So, I guess I'll wait until my next 30k service @ 120k miles .

Actually, what's the difference between this pulley system and the new one? I've seen the new one and it doesn't look very different. Is it more robust? Smoother?

Unless anyone has any grave concerns, I'll continue using this setup until my next 30k service...

Cheers and thanks.. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

A quick question : Why would you worry about a TSB if you have 95,000 miles on the original pulley system and has never had the problem that the TSB is supposed to correct?

I can see it if you are chewing through belts...but why upgrade other than fill Porsche's coffers if the belts are fine? I don't think you can even call it preventative maintenance since 95K miles is a plenty long time....

Just causing problems!

Hi Mike, valid question and no problems caused..

Actually, your point-of-view helps me lots. Yeah, if nothings happened yet, why worry about it...

Wink

I'm going along with Mike; 70K on my '95 993 and no hints of pulley/belt problems. I change the belts regularly at 30K miles. I'm passing on the TSB; why ask for trouble?
