I have found a 1997 993, 34,000 mi for $39,995. The problem is that it is a Tiptronic. Is this car worth the $. What do you think it is worth. Private party sale - good title.
Thanks

A lot depends on the color, options, and maintenance record. Mileage can be deceiving - proper exercise is more important.
For me Tip would be an issue. Good luck, happy hunting...

$39,000 for a low mileage 1997 993 seems like a good price. With the Market in the toilet, some folks are selling off what is for them, non-essentials such as Porsche cars. If I am ever in that position, the furniture goes first!!!
The 993 Tiptronic is a 4 speed, later a 5 speed in the 993. It would be a good car for heavy daily traffic, but for spirited driving, I would want a 6 speed, IMHO.
There will always be a market for a Tip, although I believe it to me much smaller than for a 6 speed tranny. If you want an automatic, go for it. Its your life!

More info- car is coupe, red w black interior. One owner. Porsche dealer maintained.
I have read all the past Tip posts and I am really not sure about this! I would jump at this car if it was a 6 spd.

I looked at a 964 about two years ago. It had the trip computer and it was a 5 speed. I thought that was wierd that I found a stick with the trip computer. After talking to the guy for a while, he said that the PO converted it to a stick. He said actually its pretty easy to convert. Although I would think its somewhat expensive, but in the end you have a OBC. The other big negative, IMO, is that you have to change the speedo, and its houses the odometer. When you go to sell the car, you'll have to explain the odometer change.

Personally, I wouldn't want a tiptronic. But that is because of what I use the car for, how I like to drive, etc. I agrre with others, keep looking and you will find a 6-speed. I you are even asking the question about whetether to get the tip...you will probably always wish you had gotten a 6-speed...and you DO NOT want that. Your 993 experience doesn't need to have ANY second guessing going on

Paul,
It's a buyers market!
I purchased a Black/Black '97 C4S,6 speed
on ebay on a "Buy it now" option for $43,9K
with 52K miles, from a Houston dealer, back in
January. The car is like new, clear title,
and the Porsche mechanics claim it's in
excellent shape. I even lucked out and got many
cool factory options including the motor sport package, radar detector, motor sound, aluminum
dials and shifter and a $3K 600Watt stereo.
Dealers will always have an "AS-IS" clause
in the purchase agreement. However, you always have legal recourse if there is any deception or
misrepresentation.
Good luck with your search!
