Default Chroming OEM Exhaust Tips

I have searched the archives and found that some of you have chromed your OEM tips. I just checked into this and was told that chrome does not stick well to stainless steel. Can anybody comment on their experiences?

I don't remember reading about chroming the exhaust tips and the results, but 10 minutes with some P21S Multi-Surface Finish Restorer Polish and a rag and your exhaust tips will look awesome. Don't even remove them, just take a rag and buff them with the P21S stuff and they will clean right up.

I took mine off to polish. Better option than chroming, IMO.

Skip,

I took mine off this past weekend and cleaned them but they still seem tarnished. I used Eagle One wadding and some blue magic polish and a fair amount of elbow grease. Does the P21S really make an easy job of it?

If you chrome your tips, the local PCA won't let you become a member. Better polish them.

Mark,

I don't usually go for the bling bling look but the tips are really lost on my polar silver baby unless they are shiny.

I'm just funnin' with you, Randy. I polished my tips to such a degree that they look chromed.

Mark,
I knew you were funnin'. Didn't I read where you shined yours using an electric drill and buffing pads?

Randy, I picked up a cheap set of used tips, and sent them to a polishing shop (Al Reed in Anaheim, CA) I think i am only into them for $100 altogether....and still have the original finish tips tucked away for safe keeping.
They are close to chrome in shine. But, unlike chrome, won't peel, and can be easily touched up with a quick hand polish.
Chroming stainless steel seems like spending money and creating work for a finish that may be somewhat more fragile.

Randy,

I spent about 10 minutes one day after a wash with the P21S stuff and they looked really good. I'm sure if I had removed them and spent more time they could have improved greatly, but I didn't have the time or desire to deal with removing them.

I haven't tried any other stuff, so I can't compare, but was very pleased with the results and ease of use.

Randy,

That was me with the high speed drill, buffer and about three hours of persnickety polishing perfection. Very rewarding, actually.

I have tried a number of different products and the p21s multi finish seems to be the best: very easy to work with and does a great job of polishing.
