Default Top Brake light

Hi
Two bulbs of my top brake light were broken. I decided to replace them by home made assembledLED's documented in the attached pdf

Hi Hans,

Thanks for the read!

The article is unclear as to where to connect and how to mount the resistors so a little ingenuity by the installer will be required.

Tore also offers a similar fully assembled solution:

Here is a safety upgrade that can be added once an LED lamp array is installed:

Have a great day,
Andy

Andy,
Each bulb is replaced by a combination of a LED and a series resistor. I soldered the resistor of 620 Ohm to the cathode of the LED.

does this answer your question/remark?

Hans

Many years ago I tried similar resistor/LED-solutions, but over time the solderings failed due to vibration. The third brake light is especially exposed to vibrations when mounted on the "basket handle" or any kind of rear spoiler.
The below has proved to be much more sturdy solution.
Cheers,
Tore

Or you can also use a native 12v red led... available from mouser and other electrical distributors

Hi all
There are many solutions, I choose this one.
It takes some time to de-solder the old bulbs and assemble the LED-Resistor combination but as a retired engineer I have time enough. Total costs were approx $12
Time will learn how long it lasts
