$46,500 96 C4S Blk/Blk, 28k mi & new engine in my Wash Post today!
I know I shouldn't be looking as I just bought mine a month ago, but I just can't help it! Saw this one listed w/ # 202 726 2662 in Wash DC. (no affiliation) Called the guy, Lou, and he's the original owner. He said it's flawless in the ad. Glad it wasn't silver, or I would have been a little miffed after spending months searching for a C4S in the mid 40's with a black interior in my local area. I just spent $45k for my C4S including all it's repairs - and mine has 59k mi! Ughhhh.
How do you keep from looking, once you buy a car?

The guy said his check engine light kept coming on, ... but I can't remember the rest of the story. Sounded legit... I think he's getting an 03 996 Turbo. Dunno the whole story.

The 6 month process of finding and buying my car was tedious and all consuming. It had not occured to me until reading your post that I have not looked at an ad for a car since I bought mine. Not ebay, Autotrader, Cars.com, Recycler, PorscheClassifieds, Rennlist, etc.
Either I'm, content, burnt out or frightened to see the prices falling. Probably all three apply.

It is one of life's basic truths that whatever car you buy, at whatever great price you got, soon afterward you will see an ad for a better car or a better price or both. Just accept it

Your a wiser man than I. I don't look too much on Rennlist Classifieds anymore, but my real weakness is the Washington Post auto section .
I'll try to wean myself off the car ads, as I know it's not safe for me to "go there". If I search hard enough, I'll always find a car that's cheaper than I one I got, with less miles, and is "perfect" .

FWIW...I love my car. It is worth everything I had to go through to get it. But I'll be damned if there isn't a yellow C4S on ebay with a rear wiper and litronics just like I wanted.

Steve,
Don't worry it'll pass. But then you'll start obsessing over mods....better suspension, litronic lights, if you don't have them, LWF, chip, etc......, and you'll take a peek at the price of 993 Turbos once and awhile.

One one hand one could argue that your relationship with your Porsche should be somewhat like getting married - once you find THE ONE and marry her, you shouldn't be looking at any others
On the other hand, your Porsche doesn't get upset when you: (i) look at other cars; (ii) test drive other cars; or (iii) decide to add another Porsche (ie TT??) to your garage

bbeckman - uh, 424 horsepower... in that Turbo "S" of yours? 0-60 in 3.6 seconds? OK - so now I know what I REALLY want !
Yeah - there's always going to be a better deal coming down the pike than the one that I got. Part of the reason I posted the blk/blk C4S local car that I saw in the Wash Post was for anyone considering a widebody "S" for a good price. I thought I was doing some customer service work here, but I also got a bit bummed in the process, thinking that maybe a better price could have been had on a much lower mile example of the 96 C4S if I ONLY had waited.
The truth is, I slept on it, and am now a happy camper again! It's all good, right? Heck, it's snowing so hard right now, with an additional 2 feet predicted, I probably won't even get to drive my car till the spring. Today would be a great day to test my 4 wheel drive 911 - NOT.

Usually now I look just to see supply and demand. not necessarily to look at if I could have had a better "deal." For what i have, and what I have paid for, and what I've got, i think it was a really good deal. I bought a car for $35K + California Tax with aftermarket options worth at least 10K alone, not to mention all service and maintenace work done to it beforee being sold (brand new SO2's all around, new brakes, new tires, 90K service, etc). It's like as if I bought a car for $22K and brought it to the level of where it is now. All I needed to do on my end was replace a headlight bulb (5 minutes and $7) and will probably get rock paint chips removed from the hood of the car (figure about $5-$700 in respraying or maybe a better deal with my friend's uncle's body shop).
Be happy with what you bought, since YOU bought the perfect car for YOU. But hey if you do find a better deal, you can always buy it and have two .

Top Ten Rationalizations To Avoid The "Grass Is Greener" Syndrome for Porsche Owners:
1) The car has more than three <insert maximum number of owners that you're comfortable with here> owners. (Okay, doesn't apply in your case.)
2) If the car has only had one owner, the owner is a jerk and you don't trust him for some reason you can't put your finger on. (Okay, so I'm reaching here.)
3) The car is an auction car. (I know, lots of people have had good luck with auction cars. I don't wish to offend any of them.)
4) The car has been badly hit. (I know, a car that has been hit could have been repaired adequately.)
5) The car has had major engine work or, worse, had the engine replaced. (Should give you serious pause in your case.)
6) The interior is not as pristine as your car. (Of COURSE the owner says it's flawless. It's ALWAYS flawless. Stone chips? Came that way from the factory...)
7) The exterior is not as pristine as your car. (The interior is perfect. Except for the wear on the driver's side bolster and the tear in the headliner and the dirt smudges on the light-colored interior.)
8) It doesn't have the options you're looking for. (It's missing Litronics and you have to have that or it's got a guage kit that you're not crazy about, etc.)
9) It's the wrong color combo for your first choice. (You can't compromise on your dream car, unless you're a Rockefeller who's gonna get rid of it like most people discard a paper plate.)
10) On the surface it passes all of these criteria but a PPI reveals problems or work that the owner is unwilling to deal with. (That great deal is not looking so great right now.)
In the smoky, dimly lit haze of the classifieds, lots of cars seem like The One That Got Away, but upon closer inspection you see missing teeth, poor grammar and a third grade education, not to mention a bad, smelly leak between the, uh, wheels. If none of these apply, then you'd better sell your current 993 and jump on this fantastic deal.
Stop going to that singles bar known as the classifieds! Remember, ignorance is bliss.

Dr. Yes, I have had this re-occuring dream.
I have all the cars I want for now. I promise to sell the 87 924S and the 92 325IC but never the 951 and 993. Life is good.
I married the woman of my dreams. Life is great.
