Default Lift points and door “stickiness” on a Cab

More of an observation than anything. The doors on my 993 cabriolet open with a nice springiness and close very solidly when on the ground. However, when I have the car lifted on the factory lift points with pucks inserted, on my quickjacks, the doors still open but they take a very light tug to open.

I presume a coupe would be more solid, but is there any risk in me keeping my cab on the lift points for an extended time (weeks) while I do engine work? I’ve heard of people storing cars on jack stands to get the wheels off the ground.

Hi MFerris,
Are you lifting it at the lift point by one jack stand? If this is the case using something called LiftBars will allow you to lift the car without introducing twisting forces on the body during lifting.
Lift Bars are discussed in the section labeled;
"Using a pair of rocker panel bars to lift each side of the car:"

Nope - I’m using quickjacks so all four lift points being raised at the same time.

I leave mine on the lift for extended periods. The car has been fine.

Must be more flex on cabs. No difference on my coupe on the ground or on the lift.

Likely worse on cabs. Do you have any smashed jack points? That is sometimes enough to introduce some twist in the unibody.

No crushed jack points. I’m presuming there is just a little flex enough to make the doors a little off.

Generally speaking, folks with convertibles (not just 993) close/latch the top, and don't open the doors once in the air. A vert will flex more than a hard top.

The 5000TL.

I have the pump permanently mounted on a shelf as I bought hose extensions. And added 4 roller bearings to each jack so I can just push each jack to the sides when not in use. These things are amazing.
