The antilock light lit up on Friday evening as I was driving home in a torrential downpour. As I have a leak in the tub that I can't locate, I figured it was maybe just some moisture in the control unit. So I pulled it out and left it in the house overnight to dry out. I also sprayed some electronics contact cleaner on the contacts of the big plug. Put it back in today and I still have the light. ABS works, though....I tested it on a wet stretch of parking lot.
Anyone have ideas or experience on this? I'll try to get to my mechanic on Monday to dump the code but I mystery lights!
Had something similar happen to me on old Audi -that turned out to be a bad wheel speed sensor. Whole ABS shut down, though.
Another idea would be to look in the fuse box, see if you can find the fuse for the ABS. Take it out, and reinsert it. Might clear the ABS brain memory if it was just a temporary problem. Doubt if it would hurt anything to try - less severe condition than disconnecting the battery when you replace it, and this has never caused me a problem exc. for resetting radio stations.
Only ideas that I have besides visiting the dealer.
I had the same problem. What I learned is the code does not help the technician. My light came on and the dealer indicated a check of each component was necessary to find the problem. It turned out to be a relay. However, if I remember correctly, it took them 2 hours to figure that out. You might have the dealer start there. Make sure you post the results as I would be interested in finding out if the code is more specific than I was led to believe.
Good luck.
From what I've read in the shop manuals, some of the codes are pretty specific. Some are also pretty vague. Problem is standard OBD2 tools won't read the ABS codes, you've got to have the porsche tool. I'll let y'all know...
I have the same probelm on my car once in a while. The tech dowloaded the fault code and said it was a relay that costs around $40.00, but in my car the fault clears itself so I'm waiting for my next service to have them change the relay.
The "Hammer" indicates no faults, so we ran a system test. System test indicates that "Terminal 61 signal not present" which is supposed to mean that the control unit is not getting power. I put the DVM on pin 1 and get 13 volts. The book says to test the ALARM system next to determine if the problem is in the wire between the alarm control unit and the ABS control unit.
JPhillips,
The "tub" I'm referring to is the bottom of the trunk where the spare tire is. ABS control unit is down low next to the spare.
