Post best driving/racing schools?

Any thoughts on Bondurant. S. Barber, Panoz, NASA vs. SCCA, etc?

All of them have merit (as you may see when using the search feature!).

As I tell my students, consider the wreck insurance & what it covers. Ask each school about that detail.

Some places let the insurance cover the 1st $5000, then YOU are liable for the remainder (could get ugly w/ a racecar).

Some cover the 1st $5K, then you are to cover the 2nd $5K and no more.

Some like the Russell school in Cali have GREAT plans that cover it all. No worries!

That is by far the best route.

Just keep that in mind. So many people never think of that.

At Skip's three day race school, if you break it, you get out of the car and into another.
It's their problem whether its $100 or $10,000 of damage.

I like Skip because you're in the formula car first morning.

PDE is great because its our kind of cars, and you spend a lot of time behind the wheel. They have a much higher insurance waiver, damage clause.

thanks.

I did search, and it seemed like Skip was the most highly regarded, but I was not entirely sure.

Thumbs up

Looking for something a little unusual?
Something none of your friends are ever likely to experience?
Someplace with over 60 years of history?
Where all the greats have raced?
You NEED to go to the Nurburgring!

Checkout the Scuderia Hanseat:
<a href="http://www.scuderia-hanseat.de/" target="_blank">Scuderia Hanseat</a>

The page is in German, but you can easily translate it using:

<a href="http://babelfish.altavista.com/" target="_blank">Bable Fish</a>

Rent a car, and do the 3 day course. Even in a 4 cylinder rental car it will be an experience of a lifetime! I did it in '93 with my new C2. It was an exciting, if humbling, experience.

I couldn't recommend it more highly. <img border="0" alt="[blabla]" title="" src="graemlins/a_smil17.gif" />

You should talk to Mark about this. He took his Radical out to Bondurant's School, met Bob, yada, yada, yada... I don't know that it's a done deal yet though.

One of the barameters I used is to ask how much seat (driving) time. I know I've attended some schools that to me seemed to be too much classroom, and not enough seat time. Also another alternative is your local PCA region that provide different run groups based on skills.

Anir and Kim

You guys will have a great time.

I did the three day school out there, so that my wife could have something to do while I was "studying at school". Not to mention I've wanted to drive the corkscrew soince I was 18.

Mo

Skip 3-day has a car session in the morning of the first day, then two seat sessions that afternoon.
The final two days have four seat sesions each day. You are learning so much I didn't feel that it wasn't enough time. Almost all of it is in the race car. Only when you are doing heel n toe are you in a neon with the instructor to help you.

PDE has more seat time per day in their two day school. However, the time spent on heel n toe is not as much. Skip teaches you true double-clutching, IMO a skill to know if if you don't need it with your current car.

PDE is valuable because you're in a new 911, so the vehicle dynamics are the same. Skip is the visceral feel and incredible responsiveness of a formula car. It is very different, and a ball.
the first time I feel it drift, I was laughing inside my helmet.

I was looking at a few schools in the texas area and one at texas motor speedway and a few others around the country will let you do the school in your own car. It cuts the price from around 2000 to about 500.
