I am accidentaly refill the gas tank with a lower grade requiered (89 Octane instead of 93). Please let me know if there are detriments consequences to the engine by driving until the next refill. Should I removed completely the 89 Octane and refill with 93 Octane? Your help are greatly appreciated. I will not driven the car until then.
Many thanks,
Linh

It won't hurt anything. Just don't drive it too redline a lot, especially if the ambient temps are high. I would probably fill up with the correct octane level when the car got down to around a half a tank. That would give you an average of 91 octane, which is the same as what the west coasters have.
The octane boost will increase the octane level by 5 BASIS points or .5. Not enough to make a difference.
Another option is to siphon some of the gas into the family truckster (if you have one).

You could run it down a bit by driving it without running it too hard and then add some race gas to even up the octane. It is a simple ratio to calculate the amount to add.

I think the DME will just retard the timing if it senses any knocking, the car will probably just feel a little underpowered. Good suggestion to keep topping it off with premium as you go. With gas as expensive as it is ... I wouldn't want to throw away 18 gallons of regular!

I thought detonation or pinging can also occur under light throttle/heavy load conditions such as following traffic up a hill in a higher than necessary gear. If this is the case, you might not want to upshift too soon so that the revs don't stay too low.
