Red face Brake fluid change (power bleeder) doesn't work..?

So,

I got the power bleeder but I can't get pressure since the pressure goes out because of the overfill pipe (see pic.).

I put fluid, pressure etc. and ended up getting brake fluid running out from the overfill pipe (it ends up to the keft wheelarche), all goes to the ground but I flushed thet part with plenty of water, just in case fluid got to the jacking point.

My question:

What do you guys do? Do you close the pipe (how?) or what's the secret?

Thanks.

FF,
I think you use some vise grips or update to the new reservior.

Thanks Greg (my god you're fast to reply!),

So the new one doesn't have that...

Since it (overfill pipe) worked so well (I managed to get that whole litre out throught that pipe... ) I think I'll leave it in place and use some vise grips.

I knew it can't work (with that pipe) but still had to try, man I feel smart! <img src="graemlins/c.gif" border="0" alt="[ouch]" />

Just got home from vacation and was going through my emails and happened across your post.

Good thing you didn't use the Castrol SRF brake fluid as you would have spilled $70 on your garage floor. ATE is what $12 or $13 a liter.

Off to watch the Speed Touring and GT race from Mid Ohio. I suggest you do the same. Goodnight.

Thanks Again Greg,

I'll crab a Corona and watch that race too, have a great weekend!

Oh, and don't forget! There's FIA Rally Chanmps on tv also, Finns Flying at Africa! (although Marcus gronholm's Peugeot's engine blew already...).

Do an archive search; you update the filler cap and plug the overfill lines (assume you have a '95?)

The simplest thing to do is just to “pinch” (must NOT forget that!) the rubber hose part when you bleed the brakes. You can use a small Wise-Grip or a tubing clamp... sold in Auto stores…

Yep Ray, it's -95.

Like Greg & Jascha suggested, I'll pinch the rubber hose. Maybe I'll update later.

One question though, with the newer filler cap, assuming oveflow (when can that happan anyway?)... where does that go with the new cap?

Out the top of the cap - but I've never had a case of that happen. The OE side overflow tube on the '95 however caused me to lose fluid due to it sloshing around on the track or autocross during heavy braking/cornering.

OK,

that's enough reason for me to 'upgrade', thanks Ray!

Hey Finn, I just got my updated cap today from Phil at Suncoast. Here are the part numbers you need:

993.355.351.00 Reservoir Cover (updated Cap) - $20.28
999.512.069.02 Hose Screw Clamp - $2.93
993.355.331.00 Reservoir Cap (plug for existing drain hole) - $.24
999.703.421.40 Rubber Plug (O ring) - $.78

They had to special order all the parts and it took about two weeks. I just got them today, so I can't comment on working analysis, but it is straight forward and should work as advertised. In looking at the cap though, I don't see the vent that Ray is referring to, unless it's is like a pop off valve?

Anyway, good luck,

E. J.

Thanks E.J.

Was/is it easy to remove that pipe? (part that's in the fender).

I haven't done the conversion yet, but I'm not planning on taking that off. I am going to remove the flexible hose at the reservoir and all the metal pipe going back to your yellow arrow in the pic. I dont see a reason to remove the hose in the fender liner. I am sure if you had the liner off for something it wouldnt be that hard though.

Hey now, you shave weight off when you remove it!

I was hoping you weren't going to come back with that, but I left myself wide open.
