I'm 5'10" and use their Recaro's standard sliders, my vision isn't obstructed by the wipers. I had 996 seats installed before and they sat way too high for me.

I tapped straight into the metal plate of the seat to mount my seatbelt receptacle

One important note I'm surprised hasn't been mentioned is that the stock adjustment ***** for Recaro Sportster CS's are too bulky and prevent your rearward sliding capability significantly if not replaced by something like these: https://cantrellmotorsport.com/produ...limline-*****/ I sold my extra set to another local enthusiast who ran into the exact same issue.

@c2_peter Thank you! I didn't know about this part. Also it is good to know I can easily attach my existing seat belt receptacles.

Good point. I forgot to mention the thin back adjusting *****. The CS seats barely fit in the 993 tub. The thin ***** are a must have. Fair warning though, the CS seats will not adjust rearward as much as stock seats.

No problem at all. Another FYI when you are shopping for the proper size drill&tap for the seat belt receptacle hole, it is SAE 7/16" fine thread*, not some crazy rare metric size (ie 11mmx1.25). There are multiple threads on RL and Pelican of people stripping threads assuming it was metric.

Wow I appreciate this. I could imagine myself frustrated by yet another unexpected obstacle (please see my seriously stripped bolts when trying to remove my seats).

What did you mean by that? Did you drill into the metal plate without a pre-drilled hole?

I was watching this Youtube video (Minute 4:17
). They talked about the receptacle needs to be mounted between the slider and the "floor mounting bracket". Not sure if they use something else.

Buy Classic 9 seat covers and take your car to a well established and reputable upholsterer. Satisfies your desire to maintain originality.

My local reputable upholsterer quoted me 12-16 hours for $175 an hour labor. Maybe it is the SF Bay Area tax.

Yes, which is why I mentioned drill&tap size. Others have used tabs but any one I tried was too wide & didn’t fit the tub (hit the tranny tunnel). Maybe someone else can chime in with a specific part #

Didn’t finish that video but it doesn’t look like he replaced the bulky adjustment ***** so that’s a negative.

I did had the same experience with mounting my seat belt receptacles. Asked local race shop how they mount them and did the same as above but I used stock hardware to retain them.

Recaro used to do custom upholstery orders but I don't think they do anymore. I would like a set of CS's but don't like the available offerings.

they do for 2 reasons; the seat itself seems to sit slightly higher, but the cushioning is much stiffer in the 996 seats and you do not sink in much at all. the stock supples are softer and i'd say you might sit 1/2" higher overall.

There are a lot of companies that will do custom upholstery for them, CarBone being one.

The PO of my current 993 had the front seats reupholstered in current Porsche OEM leather at a very high end shop in Texas. Cost was $3k and they are beautiful!

The fellow that recovered the seats…

Doing the math on that: 12 X $175= I Don't Want to Do This Job.

Had mine done for $250/seat and they were done by 1 person in less than one day.
