i picked them up locally in dallas many years ago for $750.

Another guy here that had 996 GT3 seats in my 993, they felt great but pulled them out and sold them because they made my head rub, stock seats are 1/2" or more lower.

I found some on OfferUp but the seller is asking to do the transaction outside of the application which screams scam unfortunately. He said they have a shop called Vintage Porsche Parts in Diamond Springs, CA but I can't find anything online.
Does anyone know if that outfit is legit?

Many years ago, right after I got my car, I went to a cars and coffee and sat in Pong's Ruf BTR2 (1st & 2nd pics). I fell in love with the car and especially the seats, Recaro A8s. Took me a while, but I finally tracked two down and restored them (3rd and 4th pics). I think they're basically what the Sportster CS was back in the day. They're a nice alternative to the factory hardbacks. They're much lighter than the factory seats, they hold you in well, but aren't overly aggressive, and they recline and allow access to your back seat area, not to mention they're period-correct. Basically the perfect seat for me.
There were two generations, the first of which suffered from some seat bottom issues due to the molded plastic framing the sides of the seat-bottom cracking when stressed. The second generation borrowed the seat bottom from the SRD which was much more durable and usable. They're hard to find, but they're out there with a little digging.

A8 gen1 (note the plastic-sided bottom, along with the "ribbed" upholstery between back and bottom)
A8 gen 2 (note SRD-style seat bottom)

Lots of good choices but I just submitted my deposit to Waldermar for a set of his 993 Soft Back Sport Seats like below but in classic grey with crest and heat. He was great to work with discussing options and although not cheap I am confident I'll be happy. The waiting begins!
