Default Anyone know about RS Cup shocks?

I have a lead on a cheap set of "RS Cup" shocks for my 993. Never heard anything about them. Are they better than Bilstein HD's?

You would want shocks (rear) and struts (front). These things operate as matched sets..but you know that. PSS9s at $2,500 a set are still a bargain.

All I know is they're made by Bilstein and are "RS Cup" shocks. I assume it's a set of four, but will ask more tomorrow.

Hi Rick:

I believe you are speaking of the Motorsport Bilstein coilover units.

These are not the greatest things to use on a street car without major modifications and the PSS-9 is FAR better in every respect.

These Motorsport Bilsteins are a bunch shorter than stock shocks (or PSS-9's) and require a very low ride height that is not practical at all. Further, you'll need EVO uprights and tierods to run at that height without bad bumpsteer.

I'd suggest that you stick with PSS-9's if you want the adjustability of coilovers and you'll also get the tunability of ride quality,....

ACK!!! You and Bob are too much. Too bad the $$ for them isn't just a short phone call away as well.

I haven't installed/ordered a mod for a car in over a week. I'm feeling withdrawal pains...............

Steve, Will and I were at a track yesterday that has some bumpy parts in two of the high speed double apex carousel type turns. My car, similar to the one you hooked him up with (does not have evo stuff), would steer itself a little when I would hit the bumps. Not terribly, but required quick steering corrections. Is this just because my car it so low,so stiff, so much camber etc? Or because I don't the bump steer and evo uprights? The Evos go on the rear right?
Thanks in advance

If your car is lowered quite a bit then yes you could be experiencing bump steer in a turn. The EVO/GT2/RS uprights go on the front of the car and create a new connection point for the tie rods. There is also a different shape for the tie rods.

The uprights list for around $550 each. Of course you can find them for less, but you will also need the RS tie rods ($350 list for a pair) and new front wheel bearings ($125 per pair).

Rick,

I have a set of used PSS-9's that just came off my car if you are interested. They have about 15k miles on them and one (LR) needs to go back to Bilstein for repair (that's why they came off the car). The LR adjuster **** got very stiff and doesn't turn the damper adjustment any more. Also, the threads on the same shock are galled at the top - I've had it double nutted for safety but Bilstein could probably fix that as well.

These have the "Jim Morton" designed rear hat since I bought them before Bilstein fixed the rear mount problem.

Pros: They are already assembled and would bolt right in without much fuss - plus I guarantee they'll come for a great price.

Cons: The LR has to be repaired - I don't know how long that would take nor what Bilstein would charge.

PM me with an offer if you are interested.

Ben
