Post Front Protection Bars

Just out of curiosity, did anyone who ordered ever get their FPB from Dixson? I'm still waiting. He said he would ship out last Thursday.

I haven't but I have not paid him either. I told him that if he ships me a bar, I receive it and its in good order, then I would pay him. If I don't like the bar I would ship it back and pay for the shipping. He agreed and indicated that he would be shipping end of last week.

I have not received a mail to indicate the bar has been shipped.

Just received a genuine FPB from Gert yesterday, with the usual awesome customer service. The welds are much cleaner than the ones shown in the pics that Dixson sent me.

Sometimes, you get what you paid for.

I received my bar earlier this week, and intend on installing it today. Another Rennlister that ordered one emailed to me that he had also received his bar. It actually looks like a nice, well-made piece. Too bad Dixon wasn't more honest about the source of these bars... he probably would have sold them all, and not had all this tsuris.

cool...now I have one less thing to worry about...Hoping to FINALLY pick the car up Monday. If anyone is ever in the market I can highly recommend Auto Europe in Birmingham, MI. This whole transaction has been a long drawn out process, but they have been very patient and understanding with me and have been a pleasure to work with.

(>EDIT>>>> Please read my updated post below. Along with the help of another Rennlister, I have discovered a problem with the fitment of the bar. I'm sure no one is surprised here.)

I'd love to see Dixon's "polishing machine". I suppose his high-end machine has a setting on it marked "chrome" that no one else has.

What a shame there had to be so much outright lying in this whole thing. Dixon could have made some friends instead of being tarred, feathered and driven out of town on a rail. <img border="0" alt="[ouch]" title="" src="graemlins/c.gif" />

Got mine several days ago too. Very nice looking, actually, chromed, nice welds, tight metal caps, was well packaged, and decent hardware included.

I agree with other statements above, though, that this fool could have made some friends and some more money if he simply said that he took one of Gert's bars, realized there was no patent, stole the idea and improved it, and sold it for less. Some people would have refused to buy it out of loyalty, but I bet more would have ended up buying them. That constant web of lies he spewed was insulting to those of us who thought we were helping someone out, and I can't imagine anyone here doing any business with this idiot in the future.

I'm just curious. Why would anyone want this piece to be chromed (i.e. shiny)? In my mind, it should be as invisible as possible, since its only purpose is to prevent damage to the front bumper fascia. It' not like a bar hanging off the bottom of your bumper is some nice accent piece.

Anir,

Two words: Bling, Bling.

Seriously, I don't know why anyone would do business with someone who blatently copies another product and then SPAMS the board claiming to need to unload the bars a friend stuck them with. I would bet a set of Hoosiers that this guy was Pierre Tien.

I thought these were Stainless Steel? Why would SS be chromed since it it essentially "chromed" metal?

These bars also do not protect anyone with the RS spitter like myself. I have scrape marks on the bottom nose of each splitter...I doubt if the bar would prevent that. However, I am hoping that this car would provide a foundation where I might weld some additional "sacrificial" material to protect the splitter...

I'd rather spend the extra $30. Could you imagine what Rennlist would be like if we had a bunch of unethical Dixsons posting on it? I applaud John D. for banning him.

As a dermatologist who does a lot of cosmetic surgery, I have never offered the lowest price in town for a particular service or procedure. I never will, because every doc in my practice graduated at the top of his or her class, most are double-boarded, we have been in continuous practice for 52 years, and we have one of the premier facilities in the country (44,000 sq. ft.). You could certainly spend a few bucks less for your Botox or facial resurfacing down the street, but sometimes, you get what you pay for.

Anir...When you got your FPB from Gert, wasn't it polished or chromed to a high shine. Mine was and I agree that it stuck out like a sore thumb on my Iris Blue car. I ended up wrapping black racers tape around it to make it disappear.

Actually, my FPB has a matte finish. I do agree that the pics from Gert's site still make it look a bit prominent, but I am pretty confident it won't look too obvious on my arctic silver car.

If it does, I might run it by the shop that powder coated my roll bar.

You're right, Dixon did claim that they were stainless steel.

Actually, another Rennlister asked me today if I was having a fitment problem with the bar. I was having issues with the piece but have been so busy with work that I haven't had a chance to think too much about the bar after installing it.

Basically, if you try and fasten one side of the bar with the screw, the other side seesaws down and away from the body. I temporarily circumvented the problem by using longer screws, but, as I was looking at the front of the car with the garage door up for the first time in several weeks, I noticed that the bar is mounted unevenly. I initially thought maybe my bumper valance panel was askew but the other Rennlister's query made me realize that I was not alone.

&lt;Sigh&gt; In case there's ANY question here, if you want a front protection bar, call Gert and get the real deal.

Dixon is going to have to issue a UPS call tag to pick this thing up. Glad I paid by PayPal and credit card.

Thumbs up

Just want to chime in here,

I am and have been in the stainless steel/ steel business for 15 years. If the bars you purchased have a matte finish they are probably stainless steel, if they are a shiny finish, they are either chrome plated steel (not good)!! or chrome plated stainless steel or 600 grit polished stainless steel.

As long as they are anything but the chrome plated steel you are all OK with what you bought, whether it was from Gert or Dixon.

If they are chrome over steel they will eventually rust from the inside out!!
