Well it seems that in fact Dixon and Pierre are the same person. Gert sent me an email that shows that they are both at the same address. Gert had previously sold Pierre Tien parts and then a person who bought one of Dixon's bars had the same return address. Another coincidence, I doubt it.
Here is Pierre's website: <a href="http://www.geocities.com/motorcity/garage/7083/start.html" target="_blank">http://www.geocities.com/motorcity/garage/7083/start.html</a>

Greg,
Checked out Dixon/Pierre's website. I would suggest that he update his bio to include his foray into unethical business practices. Amazingly, his "shouts" page (bling, bling again!) contains a bunch of spiritual poems about finding yourself, wisdom, and religion. What a hypocrit.
I would bet that he never even understands what he did wrong. Scary.

Ok. I admit it. I too, purchased one. My only excuse is that I am a "newbie". My only concern at this point is does the thing do what it is supposed to do?

I have purchased a couple of items from Gert and been extremely happy with the product, the quality and the customer service. ALWAYS purchase from a reputable source. Most of the times when items or prices are too good to be true, they are.

I purchased one of Dixon's bars, assuming I was helping out a fellow Rennlister who got "stuck" with some extra Carnewal parts. The bar is on, and fits fine. However, if I had all the facts in front of me, I'd rather support a reputable shop. It is, however, what it is. Done and finished. Get over it.

Kevin and Steve,
As Kim suggested, I don't think anyone is personally attacking you for buying the counterfeit bars if you were suckered into believing they were genuine Gert articles.
At the beginning, I also took Dixson at his word. I was one of the first ones to e-mail him to buy a bar, but quickly smelled a rat.
If someone purchased one of these bars knowing that it was a blatant copy of Gert's design, that's an issue for him or her to sort out in the context of his or her own ethics.
My primary concern is that we maintain the quality and integrity of Rennlist. This site has greatly enhanced the joy of Porsche ownership for me, as has Gert. An example of Gert's service: he secured GT3 seats in custom chestnut brown leather for me - embossed Porsche crests on the headrest and all. It's a color that's not even offered by the factory anymore. It took several months and a lot of effort on his part, but he did it - and at a price less than what black GT3 seats would have cost me in the U.S.

Mark,
I installed the bar today. I figured it would be less of a hassle than trying to return it to DICKson. It actually went on really easy. The only flaw is that there is free space between the mounting holes at the 2 ends and the screw holes in your car.
I recommend you go to the hardware store and buy 2 #10x1 1/2" stainless screws and a handful of 3/16" washers. Stack up a few washers between the bar and your car as you screw the ends in and it sits solid and even.
If you want to really do it right, find a replacement for the center bolt that's shorter, as the included one protrudes into the trunk about half an inch more than it needs to. It doesn't hit anything, I guess I'm just a bit picky about stuff like that.
Making lemonade out of lemons,

well, I'm supposed to finally take delivery of the car tomorrow. Was hoping to get it Friday as I was gonna drive down to Atlanta to the All Star Game. Didn't happen. I was pissed. If all goes well, this week I'll be installing the bar and I'll start laying out the design of the new stereo. I was gonna try and keep it basic but as usual, I've gone overboard already.

If I recall correctly with Gert's bar he includes two rubber washers/spacers for the gaps on the ends. I would have to crawl under my car to confirm.</strong></font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana,Tahoma,Arial,Helvetica,Geneva">David,
Our favorite Canuck also included some, but they were not thick enough IMO. I will admit that I am maybe pickier than most about proper fit. I though about getting a thicker rubber washer but decided I liked the idea of having a very solid mount. I was a bit concerned about not having enough give, but if the bar (either one) moves too much it will tend to strip out the screw at that end, and the center is a solid mount anyway.
