Post Poll: Most stupid line in a 993 4-sale ad...

I was scouring the 993 ads in the Washington Post the other day and saw this phrase I see on occasion: "2 Door", and it was in BIG letters! . Why would an advertiser waste space in a small ad to include that ridiculous information, and then leave out the mileage or the color!? Like, which Porsche wasn't a 2 door (other than the Cayenne)?

Any other moronic lines you've seen in Porsche ads? You just gotta laugh when they say something like "1995 911 - RARE, only made for 2 years" . Saw that one the other day by another knowledgable dealer .

BTW, I saw a gorgeous Arena Red 993 C4S 2 days ago on I495 on the Capital Beltway here in Chevy Chase MD and a middle aged woman was driving it talking on her cell phone. I wasn't expecting that. C4S's are VERY rare in these parts, and I've NEVER seen a woman driving one. I thought, "now there's a chick with great taste".

Ughhh - we're at war and I'm trying not to watch too much TV. Hope it's over fast...

My fiance gets a lot of attention from male drivers on the freeway when she takes my car to work. Most guys don't expect women to drive high performance vehicles.

"Triple black" for a coupe. The ad said black exterior, black interior and black headliner.

Actually Porsche did make a 4 door 911 (it's in one of the latest Brit Porsche magazines either GT or 911 And Porsche World).

The local Ford dealer ran an ad in the newspaper for a "911 C" with a picture of a Boxster above it!! A member of our PCA region went by to look at it and they insisted he take it for the entire weekend to test drive it!! It actually was a Boxster. Clueless.

As I remember, The 95 911 was made for 2 years. Remember, production on the "new" 993 started in August/Sept 93 and ran through August/Sept 95 when the 96 models were made. In the US, all the early models were called 95 models.

I often see "V-6" and power windows as features. Also, 17" cup wheels as optional equipment.
WOW! I can have the 17's AND the V-6, where do I sign?

One of my favorites is when a 86-88 911 coupe is advertised in a Porsche magazine where Porschefiles would be reading it, and they list the car as being a 5 speed or if it's a Turbo, a 4 speed. Like, you could really get an AT in those years!

I've seen 993 ads in Porsche Magazines with inane things listed like Power Steering, Alloy Wheels, Leather seats (uh, how many 993's have cloth seats as stock?)- and then they don't list the color or the mileage . It's like they don't really take the time to sit down and think it out. Gives me a big smile .

I can use a few smiles in these odd times... War in the Middle East seemed so scary and shocking the first time around 11 years ago, but now it all seems less dramatic and traumatic to me. I think I'm getting desensitized to all this horror in the world.

Steve,

Another C4S will be added to the DC metro area in the near future - making them a little less rare. Are you getting involved with the Potomac/Chesapeake regions? I'll be at the Potomac Mid Ohio DE in April - are you going?

Once there, we will have to get together over a beer and compare stories.

Hey Skip-

My # is 301 871 8617 when you move to the DC area. Love to get together when you get here. I'm not active in anything other than happily driving my beast around town . Don't have time for all that cool PCNA stuff...

Maybe one day.

I like this statement in a current Ebay ad

"In answer to many emails: Is the car a widebody? Did you add flares?
From 1995 - 1998 Porsche came out with the 993. The 993 had only one body, and it was a wide body car. This car body was used on the Carrera, C2,C4,C4S, and Turbo. The earlier models had narrow and wide bodies, but not the 993. If you look carefully through 95 - 98 you will see they all have the same body, just different bumpers, sideskits, and wings. This is why the 993 is the simplest car to make a turbo look. The integrity of the steel chasis remains intact. Thanks for your time"

The ad can be seen at HERE
