I know I should've tried it (tiptronic = no hands) since I'm married but since I'm a 'harcore' guy (tiptronic is for those non sportscar guys) so I simply can't. I'm doing great though, since I prefer air cool, and as we know, that gives nice suction and that lovely (flat-6) scream in high revs!
(now you also know why my number in track days is 69...)

hi. my wife was very supportive,about me buying my 993. in fact if it wasn't for her, i wouldnt have it, u see, i devorced my wife finally in november of last year , sold the house that i owned lock and stock and bought me self a 97 c2s. and i've got to say i should have got rid of her ages ago and bought the car. am i the only guy on here to have actually sold my house to buy 1 of these cars. please let there be another. lol.

I've dreamed of Porsche ownership for years (long before I met my wife) It was just part of the deal. She wasn't excited about my first few test drives but in Nov when I found my C4S for a great price (and considering we were just losing money in the stock market) we got it. I think she likes to ride in it about 1/2 as much as I enjoy driving it.
We could have left the money in the market and lost even more! If you’re going to lose money at least enjoy the ride....!
She is a little suspicious now that boxes are arriving with wheels, a steering wheel and mufflers but hasn’t threatened to make me sleep in it yet. (I would though!)

Aye, tis my wife that I have to thank for my 993. After our first born, she asked that I sell my motorcycles (Ducati and Honda at the time) for her sanity. Her promise was I would be able to pick up a new "toy" down the road. A short time later, we were the proud parents of a boy and a 964.

Two weeks later, I crashed in a bicycle race resulting in a broken clavicle. Unable to drive a stick, we switched cars. She loved the 964.

Knowing that I really wanted a 993 (prices were way too high back then)we both casually kept our ears open for any "can't resist" deals. One day she overheard a friend talk about how he had to sell his quickly due to a recent layoff. That Friday I came home from work to a beautiful Polar Silver 993...Yahoo!!!! Now I'm trying to convince her we need to convert the 964 into a track car ;-)

My wife has been very accepting of my sports car obsession which began in earnest about five years ago. Of course, I prepared her by supporting her horse obsession for the last ten years. Think sports cars are an expensive hobby? Think about six horses bought in the last ten years, six acres on the edge of town, a fancy barn, a Kubota tractor to maintain the pastures, a mile of special fencing, three different trailers as the horse count grew, the last a three horse model with living quarters, a Dodge diesel to pull it with, the expense of frequent clinics, saddles and other tack, boots, hay and oats every day, trips to the horse chiropractor, a $3,000 tab for the last colic episode, etc., etc., etc. She doesn't dare complain!

Not very supportive! Just give her the big 'ol SUV and she is happy. I thought she would share my pain in my recent sale of my c4s, but all she said was "good, now we don't have that big car payment". Trying to get her out to the track is like pulling teeth. She went once for an autocross event on Father's Day and stayed for a couple hours at best. When my 2 year old son grows up a little, I think she won't have much of a choice.

She has given in on my sickness however and I now have 3 motorcycles (which she said a couple years ago were banned when our son was born) 3 cars, a truck and a boat.

There have been some great discussions on this topic and being a car-a-holic in the past...

The BOXES oh the boxes...I can't imagine how my wife can't notice the boxes once every couple of weeks with new car parts and suddenly she does <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> . I have now resorted to sending them to the office so I can sneak around. <img border="0" alt="[icon107]" title="" src="graemlins/icon107.gif" /> Isn't life great.

My wife is very supportive of my car habit. I owned a 1991 M5 (purchased new) for 10 years and decided that I wanted to get a new E46 M3 SMG. We test drove the 6 speed manual together and a few months later drove the SMG model. On the way home from the test drive she mentioned that I would never be satisfied with the M3 since it drove nothing like the M5 (too insulated from the road) and that I should look for my dream car - a 993 twin turbo. Well she didn't have to tell me again! Within a few months I had purchased my TT and have never looked back. To make matters even better, my wife decided to buy an E46 M3 SMG convertible, so now I have the best of both worlds.
As far as upgrades are concerned, my wife thinks this is perfectly normal as I put over $10K into the M5 (suspension, brakes, etc.) and am on my way to doing the same with the TT (PSS-9, LWFW, RS Clutch, etc.). Once I got her on the track in the M5, she understood the "need" for the upgrades.

One of the many deciding factors to marry my wife was her appreciation for cars. I was "evaluating" my then girlfriend if she was wife material. When at the Monteray Historics 10 years ago she went absolutely crazy over a row of Shelby 427 Cobras. She loved the long drive up in my then 911SC and loves Cobras. That was it...I had to marry her. Any gal that likes the sound of a 427 is OK in my book <img border="0" alt="[thumbsup]" title="" src="graemlins/bigok.gif" />

Since then, she has encouraged my behavior and enjoyed riding in the 993. Two weeks ago she took the 993 out for the day with the PSS-9's on. She came home with the biggest grin on her face and said..."now I get it". She was hooked on the car and wants to drive it at any opportunity <img border="0" alt="[jumper]" title="" src="graemlins/jumper.gif" />

My wife is very supportive of my car habit (ok, she says it's an obsession). She loves telling the story about how *she* was the one who sat in the engine bay and scraped the old gaskets off the block of my '66 El Camino when I was changing the cylinder heads -- in the *parking lot* of the apartment complex we lived in right after we were married -- after my back went out.

She loves driving a stick , and hates that she is stuck with an SUV with an automatic. When I started seriously looking for the p-car, it was my wife that convinced me to get it. And not only that, she was the one who said I should spend $10k *more* to get my Targa which she felt was more distinctive than a higher mileage coupe I had been looking at because the price was right.
