Post Adj. Stabilizer Bars (was: Gert)

Does anyone have Gert's email or phone number? I ordered the Bilstein PSS-9's and RS stablizer bars but my mechanic ran into problems with the stablizer bars. Apparently the front stablizer hit up against my vacuum brake booster. The OEM bar has a bend in it to avoid it. My car is a '95 Cab. Has anyone run into this problem? I am thinking Gert sent me the wrong bars. The back stablizer is also needs some modification. I had rear monoball camber plates installed to make the Bilsteins fit correctly. It was recommended by Bilstien. I trust my mechanic (Alan at The Stable, in SF) and have worked with him before. I would appreciate any help in getting a hold of Gert. I have sent Email from his website and got no answer after 5 days. The car is ready minus the stablizer bars (had the old ones put back on). Can't wait to get my baby back.

Thanks all

Just installed my PSS-9 with RS swaybars from Gert over the weekend. The clearances are tight but do not touch. Once installed the bar will not move much in the center of the car. My front bar had a few mm's of clearance in front. Part of the of the heat exchanger rubber ventalation tube touches but is not a problem on the rear.

This may seem dumb but did he have the front bar in backwards. I put mine in backwards first then realized it and switched it.

I have a 95 coupe if that helps. I have the ERP monoballs on the rear also.

Question

For what it is worth. I had been corresponding with Gert up to last week when he stated that he was going on a vacation after many, many weeks of long hours. I believe that he said he would be gone a weeks or so.

In the mean time, you might post the part numbers off your bars and have some of the other Gert "kit" recipients confirm you numbers and the clearance. At least you could remove a wrong part as the fitment issue.

Regards

Thanks Mark, Kim and Jim for the information. I did use the website mail but did not know Gert was on a well deserved vacation.

Mark, I do believe my mechanic had it right (front vs rear). He showed me where the problem areas were before I took the car home. It is possible that each car has its own "personality" when it comes to clearances. The RS bar definitly hit the Vacuum brake booster. He didn't think it would be a good idea to install the front bar without additonal clearance. He did say they could be bent but wanted to hear from Gert to see if there was some other way or part. The rear RS bar was also a different shape than the original but could fit. However, the drop links that Gert supplied were a little too long and would hang down below the bottom suspension arm.

The part numbers are:
933 343 707 81
933 333 707 81

If these are the correct part numbers, I may head down to Custom Alignment....

Had the car lowered to between RS and ROW ride height, aligned, and corner balanced. The car rides great so far and looks fantastic.

Appreciate the help

He told me he would be back from vacation after April 10th. I placed an order with him right before he left.

BTW, anyone knows if the RS stabilizer bars from Gert will fit on the 96 C4? I understand most of them from other manufacturers only fit the regular Carrera.

Actually, the numbers are:

993.343.707.81
993.333.707.81

These are the only adjustable bars for the 993 sold by Porsche.

The bars will work on the Carrera 4 without any problems. The only modification required is the use of the M030 drop links in front.

They are supposed to go below the lower arm.

Since your installer has never done this before remind him to double check the rear drop link mount since it has a tendancy to free itself and allow the lower droplink to touch the axle shaft when not installed properly.

Yes rockdoc the clearance between the vacuum brake booster and the swaybar is tight. What I was refering too on the sway bar is the orientation of the front swaybar. The swaybar has a left and a right to it. Installed one way the bar will curves up then down. When I first installed my bar this way, it did touch the vacuum brake booster. I then flipped the bar around left to right and put the bar back in. The bar was now curved down then up. The bar would now clear.

On the drop link, they are supose to hang down long. Here is a picture from Rennsport web site that shows what the rear drop link should look like.

Believe me, I had to run back inside the house to look at the picture when I installed mine . Pay attention to where the drop link attaches to the shock. It attaches to the outside of the hole not the inside.

Had my suspension set to RS ride height and it looks really good.

Hope this helps.
Good luck,
Mark S.

Not to confuse things but... my shop installed the Weltmister RS spec sway bars with the bar ends above the arms, not hanging below?? They fab'ed shorter drop links in the rear to make this work. The only reason I can think of for doing this is if I were to have a off road excursion at the track,(not that I am pre disposed to do so )there would be less chance of the end of the bar catching on anything. I have the the PSS9's and the car is lowered to RS specs so this may why the choose to go above the arms. Does any one have a differing opinion??

Eric,
When I was working on building my race car over a year ago I had the same question and my mechanic said they went below the toe link, I questioned him again and he said to go next door and look at the 993GT-2. Sure enough they were the same way. I emailed Steve W. at rennsport the same question and got the same answer. I had the same concerns as you but I got over it.

Thanks Greg,
But I am above the arm??? The one advantage I can see for having the bar end below the arm is it would be easier to change the setting. I'm not going to worry about it and trust my shop. Midwest Eurosport, who you mentioned from your PCA race post does all my work, if they dont know what they are doing, no one does... Greg, any chance you will be at Mid Ohio for the PCA race in May???

Eric,
I can't see that it would hurt anything, but there may well be a reason that they are under the link that neither of us has thought about. Just seemed like some extra work to custom make some drop links.

I won't be at the Mid Ohio race I have two "local" races, Putnam and Mid Ohio and had to give up one of two dates for "family activities". I wasn't going to give up both races so I gave my wife the decision and as a result Mid Ohio lost out. I wish I was going so I could redeem my poor showing last year but so goes life. Our region is having a DE on the Friday before the Putnam Race if you are interested I can get you some info.

Great advice everyone! I will probably have the bars installed at a shop that has more experience.

Gert emailed me today and gave me some great advice.

Thanks again everyone for your quick responses. Its a comfort to know that you are out there when someone needs help.
