Tito - yours is a 993TT, isn't it?? Further up in the topic someone was suggesting it wasn't a good idea to drill the airbox on turbos...

Anyone got a definitive answer? I like the idea of doing it to mine as well but would like to hear if it's considered a good idea or not for Turbo models...

Definitely do NOT drill the airbox. You are going to be sucking in lots of lovely hot air if you do. Turbos do NOT like hot air!!

Firstly your EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperature) will go through the roof. Not good. Then theres the fact that the colder (denser) the air you can chuck into the turbo, the more power you are going to make. Thats why on colder days you will have more power for the same boost PSI level than on a hot day. Thats also why you see those Skylines, Supras etc etc with those huge front mounted intercoolers and half the front of the car cut away to expose as much intercooler surface area as possible! So drawing hot air in from the engine compartment is going to cost you a lot of power.

On all 3.6 or 3.8L Carreras the best highperformance air-intake system is a BMC F1 airfilter used in conjunction with and the "CARRERA CUP airbox coverlid" marketed by Performance Products, AJ USA, FVD Germany, Cargraphic Germany and many other USA tuners.

On stock cars there is a solid performance gain. On cars with simple modifications like a true freeflow exhaust the gains are magnified. This system was an adaptation of the methodology used by Porcshe Motorsport Germany for the Carrera CUP 964 cars and they said +8HP was acheived. This is true for all 3.6s provided your airbox is true Carrera CUP style like the photo below.

A couple holes or microholes wont do the job adequatley. Furthermore why permamnetly destroy a stock factory original part when you can buy a better engineered replacement part at a cheap price and keep your Porcshe original parts intake so you can make it original should you trade it in or enter a concours in the future.

My 1998 Cab on its way from Fl has B&B headers and mufflers in addition to factory 159 option. Supposed to give 10-15 extra horses. Has anyone had any experience with this system?

You should just buy a factory pre-drilled cover. It would look neater and will save you the time to drill the holes.

I installed a BMC Air Filter with the factory cover and a set of RSR Mufflers. The sound is perfect.
