Question My car unlocks itself

This problem just happens to my 1998 993 C2S:

Whenever I tried to lock the car, it will unlock itself automatically.

Is this a common problem for 993? What exact part that needs to be replaced?

Thanks

Are you posting on the correct forum? 2008 911 should be 997...

Hi Dori,
I seem to recall if one of the doors is ajar when using the fob to lock the car it will lock and then quickly unlock the doors.

Most probably a failed door or lock position switch.
The alarm/door lock control unit contains fault codes that will reveal the reason for this. A Porsche-compatible OBD tool will be able to read out the codes.
Cheers,
Tore

My 96 993 does this periodically. I think it might be the same issue. I go to lock the doors and it immediately unlocks. I have thought I was holding the button on the fob down too long. Maybe something else is wrong but it doesn't do it all of the time.

I had this issue years ago and it was a failed door lock actuator. I replaced both sides and it silver the problem.

When you lock with the FOB, does it sound like the actuator is moving full stroke or something less? On my 97, if I open the door and try to lock with the FOB, the actuators make a "dull thud" sound instead of the more pronounced sound of a successful lock. Obviously your door isn't open but a failed door jamb sensor could be telling the alarm unit it's open.
