If there is something better out there I haven't heard of it.

I've only received one ticket since buying a V-1 about 5 years ago, and that was with laser. To my knowledge, nothing can really protect you against laser.
The Valentine One is universally praised by users, places highly in magazine tests, and incorporates an immensely useful directional radar locator. Plus, it's upgradable by the factory. As a bonus, the latest model is more streamlined / less bulky.
You really can't go wrong with the Valentine One. I recently custom installed a second unit in my wife's M3, with the remote display hidden in the pull-out ashtray.

I've had the V1 for about 4 years, and it has saved my butt so many times I've lost count. I've driven to events with other people with other brands, and I've been impressed by how much better the V1 is.

This question comes up at least every few months so there's a bunch of threads in the archives. Click on "search" near the top of this page, enter "valentine radar" for search words (match all), search 993 forum, search in entire message, for any date & you'll have the Board's consensus that V1 is THE one.

The V1 is not only the best detector, it's a good value. It depreciates less than any other electronic device or production car I'm aware of.
Just look at recent eBay used V1 completed sales.
BTW, if you are considering a used V1, check the serial # here to determine its level of performance.

Thanks for the great response, now that I know to buy the V1 I need to know whether or not to buy the remote display, and if so, where is the best place to mount it in a '95 993 cab?

Archive search! Follow the search process in my post above, using V1 install as the search words (match all) & you'll get 4 threads that may answer or, at least refine your questions.

I believe the display is an extra $40. I don't have one, but I seems like a nice option.
Charle's website does have mounting instructions for the display remote for a 911.

I wouldn't do it. How do you transfer unit from one car to another? Or carry it with you on a trip when you use your rental car? On mine, I just release the suction cups, unplug the unit, carry it to the other car, attach it to the windshield via suction cups, and connect the power wire. Total time less than 10 seconds (note - I hard-wired both cars).

The remote display does not, in any way, change V1 removal or portability. On mine (hard wired, remote display, "permanent" slide in mount above mirror), I just unplug the V1, slide it out of the mount & use it elsewhere w/cig lighter plug-in & the (extra) suction cup mount - same as yours.
