Default Cool article on Porsche restomod

I am sure all of you have already seen this, it's nothing new and not directly related to 993.

BUT it's a perfect rabbit hole and threw me deep into some incredible reads, photos and youtube videos of modern Porsche restomod companies around the world. Some of them I did not even know existed. it was quite educational for me actually.

https://www.supercars.net/blog/best-...oration-shops/

My favorite non-Singer non-Gunther Werks companies so far are:

Kaege

Rennsport

CPR classic

What is your favorite and why?

Great article. Fascinating how many companies are out there, outside of Singer and Guntherwerk, etc.

Patrick Motorsports in Phoenix do phenomenal builds including but not just limited to backdates / restomods.

Fun fact- they actually created the original Singer prototype way back at the start before Singer decided to take that part of their build inhouse.

singer is an old man compared to Guntherwerks. Amazing how people mention them in the same breath.

This is what I love about the Porsche hobby - these cars are the perfect platform for customizing into your own personal creation, and there are enough of them out there that we don't have to worry about preserving some rare historic artifact exactly as it left the factory.

This is absolutely news to me. Really?? I'll have to look into GuntherWerks a bit more. Singer being an "old man" certainly is not my first impression. I'll take an old man's car anyway!!

Call it blasphemy, but I’m not a huge fan of Guntherwerks projects, too aggressive for my taste. Singer is just so perfect that I don’t feel special liking them! Haha (remember the recent singer targa that sold on BaT, that driving video shot with a drone was a dream)

Unfortunately there are not many 993 restorations (too perfect? too young?). That’s probably why I totally loved Kaege’s mods. I’m almost 40 but can easily see a G body project for my retirement!

My own 993 is too clean, too expensive and too stock to modify at this point. Maybe in a few years.

That Singer Targa, stuff of dreams... I really like Kaege and the fact that they now propose a glass roof for their Targa is one thing that makes it so much cooler to me than the Singer Targa.

Maybe he refers to the fact that you definitely have to be an old man to be able to afford them.

Kaege are all based off of 993s I think.

Some more details about this particular restoration:

from Kaege:
The basic vehicle is disassembled down to the last screw and the body is modified so that our specially developed Kaege F-model parts can be adapted and installed. All body screw parts are made of carbon. They are very light and just as stable as tin.
While we are changing the body, all the technology is being overhauled at the same time. Screws are also galvanized or renewed so that you end up with a new vehicle.
At the same time, the interior will be completely renewed by our specialist. We use the finest materials that match the vehicle both in terms of style and quality. The interior colors, leather and fabrics are discussed with you in advance, down to the smallest details.
After the vehicle has been completely painted in all corners and edges as desired, we will first install the technology and then the upholsterer will install the interior. In the end, you get a vehicle that is as good as new.
We test drive each vehicle for approx. 1000 km. This ensures that the vehicle leaves Stetten without defects and that the engine has been carefully run in. This is how the driving fun begins for you from the first kilometer.

Furnishing:

Series base vehicle 993 Coupe (air conditioning, cruise control, sunroof, transmission, four-wheel drive, convertible, turbo, etc.) All standard options are retained.
To build a bracket Targa we need a 993 Cabrio. This could then be built both as an F-model convertible (unique in the world) or for a Targa (optics F-model Targa).
It would also be possible to build a retro glass roof targa. unique worldwide)
LED headlights, radio navigation incl. telephone hands-free system in retro style, Recaro seats, rims in Fuchs design, KW chassis and much more. Each vehicle is therefore unique.

Price for a complete rebuild:

The total working time amounts to 2500 -3500 working hours. Total material price depending on the vehicle €80,000 - €120,000 net plus VAT.
Thus, the construction of the vehicle costs a total of €290,000 coupe, €330,000 convertible, €360,000 glass roof targa, €390,000.00 Targa with bracket, €490,000.00 turbo, plus VAT. Free Stetten. The basic vehicle is not included in the price, but we will be happy to take care of it for you.

additional options

Exclusive package:
Interior package Plus (all small parts covered in leather and much more) €12,000.00
Interior fittings with individually supplied leather mesh €12,000.00
Sports package:
Lightweight bucket seats, roll bar, sports tires €6,000.00

Engine:
Classic and Targa 3.8 l instead of 3.6 l €12,000.00
turbo
3.6l with 450 hp instead of 408 hp is standard
3.6L with 500hp €12000.00

All prices plus VAT

Payment:

After delivery of the basic vehicle, we calculate the first third of the order volume.
After painting, another 1/3 will be charged. By then, all revision work will have been completed.
Final payment is due upon completion upon collection or delivery.

Construction time:

approx. 2 years from delivery of the vehicle.
