Max - Yeah, the sai ports were pretty clean. All the photos were taken before anything was fixed, cleaned, etc...They were going to clean them anyway...
Thomas - The valve guides are the culprit here. Excessive wear caused them to let the valves wobble around in their seats, ruining the seats basically. That's where the compression loss was coming from; exhaust seats...This won't be a problem going forward as we're using new and different upgraded valve guides.
Skip - I already have the route planned. 4 hours there, and 6 hours back
Thanks Rick - I'm surprised you haven't already torn it down "just because" Those shots of your car jacked up to the ceiling with he tranny coming out were sweet...
Thanks for the kind words guys !! I only had the chance to drive it for about 15 mins before the PPI. Then they started tearing it apart. I remember how it performed but I'm really anxious to see how the upgrades change the feel of it. I bet the "seat of the pants" hp is totally different...

Valve seats in heads 1 and 2 had to be replaced cause they were worn so badly. Then the valve job itself. Then my mods and preventative maintence; LWF & clutch, RS tranny and motor mounts, exhaust, new plug wires, new powersteering belt and a few other odds and ends. It's been "on the operating table" for a month now, hopefully the patient will be home this weekend with a new lease on life.

The seller, Truspeed Motorcars (who are great guys btw), agreed to do the valve job. So, I saw this as an opportunity to get some very good mods done since they are already paying for the R&R on the motor/tranny. For instance, I am paying for 1 hr labor on the LWF and clutch Of course I have to pay for the upgraded parts, but parts are much cheaper then labor when your talking 993's. Altogether with the valve job and upgrades the bill is around $11K and change. Yeah it's allot, but the car should be better than new when Herge is done.
