And ... I'm back in a new 993!
After a six-month fling with a 99 996 C2 cabriolet, I divorced her and came back to the fold with a new-to-me 993. And it's good to be home.
The car is a two-owner late-build 95 Carrera 2 coupe, black over cashmere, 23k miles, 17" Cup rims with new S02s, limited slip, ABD, heated seats, power seats, rear wiper and crest caps. The previous owner had it lowered and cornerbalanced with H&R springs and added a TechArt strut bar. There's no evidence of any paintwork, and the car has had its oil changed annually even though the second owner put less than 1000 miles a year on her since 1999.
I picked it up in Indianapolis on Sunday afternoon and drove it straight back to Boston ... a long, arduous drive, but a good bonding experience, as the drive went without a hiccup from the car. Other than an early scare with the cigar lighter inoperable and my Valentine One dead -- turned out there was no fuse for the lighter in the fusebox -- and some mysteriously inactive foglights (see earlier thread if you can help) -- the car has been a joy to drive.
As an aside, if you're flying to pick up a car, just pay the extra for a roundtrip flight, it will save you considerable hassle being screened at the airport -- you get to go in the special line, wait forever, stand with your arms out for a few minutes while a wand is run over every inch of you and someone paws through your entire carryon bag. And they'll do it again at the gate.

Congratulations and welcome back!
I had virtually the same experience when I bought my 98 C2S. I flew out to Cleveland (I did buy a one-way tix, but the was prior to 9/11) with a friend of mine, and drove it back to NYC. What a great drive, did most of it at night through Ohio, spent the night in a great little college town (Harrisburg, maybe?) and then through NJ to the City the next day. It was a hassle free and great experience; I may have to do that again!

Thanks, folks ... I missed my 95 C4 like crazy when I let it go last October, but it's in good hands ... JasonF, another Rennlister, has her.
Tito, the 996 is a nice car, it's very quick and very refined, but I missed the old-school feel of the 993, and it's a heck of a lot more tactile experience washing this car ;-)
Plus, the 996 seems poised for some serious depreciation, which wouldn't have been an issue if I thought I was going to hang onto it for a while, but I have a track record of sampling different 911s. And the problematic rear main seal is a concern; mine leaked at 28k miles and just about every other 996 that's talked about on the Rennlist board has lost at least one RMS, some as many as three. I had an RMS leak on my 95 C4, but it seems more isolated in these cars.
I do miss the convertible, though ... that top is a work of art and it really is as quiet as a coupe.

Welcome back to where the only water is what we drink. Great looking car! BTDT with the one way trip to pick up cars-no fun and almost missed a plane at Logan once. Might you bring your new wheels to Cambridge when Adrian comes Berekly Publishers (another thread on this board) in May? Love to see the car in person.

Hi Vic - Welcome back - do you want to buy your old turbo twists back from me to put on the 993? . Enjoy the ride and drive it like you stole it! Ralph

Ha, that's tempting Ralph ... I saw Dan from St. Louis' black coupe on the 18" 5-spoke Carrera lightweight rims and had some impure thoughts ...
And Al, I will try to make it to Cambridge that weekend.
Cheers,
Vic

Kinda like putting on an old pair of shoe's, sure they dont look as new (or smell as good) as the shoe's you just took off, but boy do they feel good

Looks good, welcome back to the fold.
BTW, on the airport thing. I have found that if you ask the first screener to stamp your ticket that you have already been strip searched at security they then do not have to do it again at the gate.
