The thing that scares me is that right after I got the M3, i was satisfied. After a couple of DE, I want a 993. What next? a twin turbo?
thanks for sharing.
This board in general is much more cordial than others I've visited. Maybe is the age group here. Looks like I'll be hanging around here awhile.

Norman:

Your story is just like most of the people’s here. If I just had some R compound tires. Well what about some suspension upgrades? Bigger brakes? I’ll tell you what comes next. You end up with a dedicated race car. Perhaps, a factory race car if you aren’t careful. That means a trailer, a tow vehicle and more space in your house than you can possibly imagine to store tires, brakes, fluids, spares of all sizes and a slightly unhappy but mostly understanding spouse. Then you think of everything financial in terms of race tires and engine rebuilds.

You are on the top of a very slippery slope. Have fun!

I am definitely treading ever so close to the edge of the slippery slpe. My instructor at my last DE is at the bottom of the slope,ie full prep race car and he is divorced. My wife already thinks I'm crazy hanging a webboard like this and attending DEs. Luckily, my daughter thinks dad's car is cool. If there's any san francisco bay area 993 meet, I'll love to check it out.

Yes, go for the TT!!!

I feel your pain also. I'm trying my hardest to keep the flood gates closed also, but I think that I'm losing the battle.

If there is a bay area event, I hope to meet you some time. There are quite a few 993 owners in this area.

[QB]MauriceC2S- Since you stated that you riden all generations of M3's- I always liked the E30(first gen) M3 because it definitely had the killer racer look and much different lookwise to the base e30 model which I can't say for the 2nd/3rd generation. Having driven the E30 I found it to be quite harsh and very firm. Would you say the 993 be similar to the E30 M3 ridewise.]

Maurice,
To answer your question e30 vs. 993. I will simply state they are worlds apart. I don't find the e30 harsh and firm however.

Jeff
a friend of mine in the penisula area also has a 993TT and loves it, we just came back from thunderhill a few weeks ago, had a great time. His TT just blew by me down the straight! felt like a Kia. I've been scanning the paper and web for a 993, it seems like the bulk of the cars are around $45K, is that about right?

mid to low 40's for 993 is a good range, obviously there are a lot of variables. c2s/c4s cars are in the high 40's to 50's. I just heard of a tt selling at auction for 62k, but most that I have heard of changing hands were in the high 60's to low 70's. My friends dad just sold his for 72k here in So Cal.

Hi Norman - I am a Bay Area 993TT owner. I got bit by the HP bug and sold my 993 C4 Cab and bought a TT from Texas of all places. eBay really is a good place to look for Porsches. I found the buyer of my car by listing it on eBay and the TT I bought had been listed on eBay as well (neither car was actually sold through eBay). Many people list there just to get sales leads. In this way eBay is like looking at autotrader or the like.

Hi
I know condition is the key for evaluating a used car, but what do you guys think is "too high mileage" for a particular car. I just went to look at a 96 993 coupe, blk/tan wtih 74k miles, 75k miles service complete, the paperwork looks good, 1 owner car, assuming that PPI is fine, is 74K miles to be afraid of? they are asking $38k.
thanks
Norman

When it comes to mileage, its still important to make sure the car is in good condition, and then compare the mileage to the price, ensuring that you get very good value for money.

Also if a car is going to be a daily driver, higher mileage now could mean harder to sell later.

Hank, I'd need to do some of those too, but I'm not sure yet how much I want to do...

Mike, Oh yes! Although my wife doesn't seem to agree with that one. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

I here you Flying Finn-the Mrs. does play a big role in decision making : (. I know at some point I'm going to get another Porsche like maybe trading up for a 996 tt but the thought of having 2 Porsche's is even better. I was looking also if I keep my 996 my choice for a second car is the 930,993 or the Lancer EVO VII but it's wait and see for me-still need to find the specifics on the Lancer if they detune it for the U.S. Regards. Lancer? What? Even though one other Flying Finn (T. Makinen) won four world rally titles in a row with Lancer, if your other choices are 993 or 930, you don't need to check any specifics my friend!

If you're planning to take it to the gravel roads, I understand, but remember to learn left foot braking first, then, it's a blast!

With Mrs. you need to have a plan... and be smart!

See the post below...I read the intro question and responded...then I read the post. The question in the post is about M cars, the question in the headed is about Varioram and non-Varioram cars at the track. I don't know one thing about Bimmers, except that they come from the Carolinas, or is it Munich? Not really certain..but I do know that Varioram give 12 extra HP and some mid-range torque. I doubt that you'd feel this at the track...but only you would know by driving identically prepared cars, one with and one without Varioram. Of course you would have to drive the identical line and track conditions would have to remain constant.

Hey I'll take 12 HP any way I can get it...it came with the car, and it is on the 993RS so it must be good!!! Look at what you have to soend to get an additional 12HP...such a deal!!!

Quick Reply: Any differences in track with non-vram and vram 993's?
