Alternator pully upgrade
How can I tell if I have the alternator pully upgrade on my 95 993(TSB 7/97a-Group1- Dated 2/5/1998)? Can I tell visually?
Cheers and TIA

One way would be to check your present alternator belt size or part number against the listings at p-car.com's V belt DIY - the upgrade uses a different belt.
I also believe there are visual differences in the pulleys discussed in the archives, but since I know I've got an old one, I never paid much attention.

Based on the belt size (9.5 x 760) you have an old, pre-update pulley - just like me

Thanks Dan
Not sure how needed this updated pulley really is. I've never had any problems (belts slipping/breaking, chirping noises, etc...).
For now, not going to update, unless I hear otherwise...

oleg...
I just had the upgrade done on my 95 p-car and you have the old style(original) pulley. The new style looks just like the picture Robin posted, a narrow shoulder that the nut rests on. The old style has the larger, thicker shoulder...you definately have the old style.

My experience & thoughts exactly. I too plan to wait until, at least, it's time to change belts.

On my '97 coupe, I have the updated pulley, but still have the old belt (999 192 343 50, 9.5 x 760mm). According to Porsche Bulletin 7/97a, 1378, dated 02/05/98 which I saw posted on here a few weeks ago, the 911 Carrera MUST still use this belt even with the updated pulley. I have a print-out of that post which referenced the bulletin...the TOPIC of the post is "Belt of Verge of Breaking"

Thanks for the correction. I just reread Robin's belt listings & the post you referenced & had missed that just the turbos use a smaller belt w/the updated pulley. Now I need to check & see if I have an updated pulley after all.

Will go along with Oleg and Dan96C2; I haven't switched mine and see no need to. Belts are lasting 30K+ miles just fine; I replace then just for peace of mind.
What I DO want to look for is a slightly longer AC belt than the stock 13 X 1085. I got a Conti-belt as a replacement and I can't reinstall the compressor mounting bolts; the belt is too short for this application. Strangely, it's the same size as old one but the manufacturer (ContiTech) is different than the Optibelt that is on there now. So, the size is prob. just different enough.

OK, so I'm not the only one with an older (1995) 993 without the pulley update. When I first got the car (about 13K ago?), I saw numerous posts on this topic, but I figured I'd wait till a belt starts exhibiting wear before I'd do the TSB Update. Well now my opinion is it ain't broke,...so there you go. Whew...so far.
