New to me 993 C4S
We have been toying with the idea of adding an air cooled 911 after selling our 79 911SC last year at the beginning of the pandemic.
Found a very nice 1996 993 C4S in California last month and she was delivered this past weekend.
I would describe her as a very nice driver that needs some minor sorting due to the car being off of the road for the past few years.
Took her out for the initial danger ride today and happy to report that she runs and drives very well

Thanks, I’m one of those boring keep her stock guys. Staying off the slippery stuff for the time being but never say never
TY, she is a driver and I will add some miles cruising around town.
TY
Thought I was done with air-cooled cars, the 993 changed that

She is a solid driver with 98k miles and in need of several DIY fixes, nothing major. Typical horn pad issue, climate control is missing a button-found a guy in Florida that 3D prints them along with a replacement switch, sunroof moves about two inches and stops, I suspect an obstruction of some type and I need to sort a bulb or short in the right rear turn signal. That’s about it in addition to a few cosmetic issues, drivers seat has a small tear and the heckblende needs to be replaced.
All in not bad for a “driver”

As for the leaving it stock..... there are certain things that really will transform your car while appearing to the entire world that you have a "stock" car. A 'wake up call' for your 993. Freshening up a 25 yo 100k mile suspension might be considered normal maintenance. Springs/shocks/bushings and a proper alignment performed by the right indy. A fresh set of tires. The goldenrod/SSK from Fister. While you are at it swap out the motor mounts to RS.... that too will help make your shifts rifle bolt smooth while bringing just a hint of visceral into the cabin. A Fister II exhaust and you and good to go!

TY - Will do, although I don’t work quickly.
Thank you, the forum has already provided a wealth of knowledge 👍
Thanks for the warm welcome. I got lucky with this one, she runs and drives very well, had her out this morning for an hour long fun run. The suspension is in very good shape, shocks, springs, bushings are already done. Bump stops are the only suspension item requiring attention, as long as we keep her at stock ride height that can wait for awhile. Tires are Pirelli P-Zero Rosso, “N” spec dtd 3420 and 4920, so we are good. We are fortunate to have a couple of factory hot rods, so the plan for this car is factory ride height, soft suspension and comfort, love the eight way seats. Rifle bolt shifter, visceral and an aftermarket exhaust are not the direction that we want to go Nothing wrong with that, our 993 is definitely not a show car but if you think about the, preservation class, that is the direction that I want to take this car.
Thank you, that is a very tough question because the SC was a very good car but very raw. It was about ten years ago that we started selling off the air cooled cars and replacing them with water. The SC was the last of the air cooled cars that I sold in March of 2020. Every time I drove her it was 6k rpms through all of the gears just to stay ahead of traffic. While that was fun, occasionally I just wanted to cruise around and ended up taking one of the other cars as a result. My rule of thumb is that if she doesn’t get driven, your out. As much as I liked the SC the other cars were used much more often. The 993 is far more civilized and refined yet you can still get on it and have fun IMHO the best of both old and new. For me the best part of my 993 is that it is not modified and I can simply look up the part number in PET and install.

Excellent. Thank you for the response. This pandemic has made be a better wrench and I’m looking to add another air cooled, older model to my garage to both drive and improve. I’m hoping the market cools off eventually, but you know the saying: you can spit in one hand and hope in the other. See which one fills up first.
Enjoy the new addition!

Definitely not the cars fault, I simply will not have the spare time that I was anticipating.
