Welded door check brackets
And yet another car.
1995 coupe, 37k, original paint.
Currently on BaT.
Blue TTop, Still convinced Porsche never welded them at the factory?
Never say never!

A car seller is not by default an expert. No I am not convinced. Not sure the purpose of your post isn’t just to stir things up. Definitely not a party I would want to buy a car from.

LOL
I bought my one-owner 6/94 build 993 sixteen years ago. The car had 34,xxx miles and was super clean, inside & out.
Both of my check straps have the same, neat welds under the protruding tabs. Zero evidence of weld spatter, paint work or any other irregularities.

Being willing to glean truth from any source is a sign of wisdom and humility. Not doing that is the essence of ignorance.
BTW: I'm a fixer. Not so much a seller and certainly not a dealer. I despise most dealers.

I really don't care how you're convinced of the truth; the important thing is that you embrace it. Glad you're making progress.

Question for the check strap cognoscenti: My driver's side is clicking and I need to fix it before it gets worse. Can I get away with the neat external welds a la @INTMD8 or do I really have to go whole hog and take the door off and cut a window in the door post? Would prefer doing this the easy/external way, but maybe that option only works with a strap that hasn't broken the factory weld at the base yet.

^ Can you post a photo? Mine was cracked but hadn't shifted. Was still located laterally. If yours is completely broken/loose I would not just weld it externally myself, especially if it didn't have that weld originally.

You're right, and thinking about it more, I'm gonna cut the window. The base inside the door post is completely broken free. Welding it externally wouldn't last. The welds would become a pivot point and crack soon enough.

Interesting. I was looking through my old receipts and in 2005 Hendricks Porsche in Charlotte welded the check strap. The paint on it looks factory and amazingly it is still good after 16 or so years.
