You're right, at the end of the day, it all depends on what your taste is. For my taste, authenticity is an important part of my driving pleasure. For me, Porsche equals purity, so modifying a car is not what I intend to do. If I want to obliterate a 993 in performance categories, I'll use my 991.2 GT3, and I would feel a lot safer doing so.

How is your search going for the 993? I would suggest that you contact EU Groups of owners / enthusiasts that frequent various Facebook / Clubs and make yourself known to be a buyer. Tend to find better examples than the average dealer cars with the odd exception of the two EU based RS specialist dealers. All but one of my cars has come from private deals of friends of friends or association through groups. The 964 RS is worth looking into as well, more of them, cheaper and more fun at lower speeds than the 993.

Thanks for asking!
The search was successful. I located a nice 69000 km Polar Grey 993RS in France, had it checked, and was able to close a deal with the private seller. It's been at my Porsche dealership, and no bad surprises have been detected. Besides a set of new tires, a big maintenance, and some minor adjustments, the car was perfect.

So glad I made the purchase. The driving experience is so different compared to my 993TT. More agile, more direct, especially on B roads. The 993TT remains the better drive on highways, so I consider it to be my GT for the odd weekend trip. The 993RS is for more serious driving to destress after a working day, or for a day-trip with my car friends.

I've considered the purchase of a 964RS instead of the 993RS and might have bought one if I felt I couldn't find a 993RS at a reasonable price. Having driven both cars, I don't think one is better than the other, they're just a bit different: the 964RS a bit more raw,, the 993RS a bit more balanced, giving me a bit more confidence to attack a turn within the limits of my driving skills.

Great News and pleased you found a good one to purchase, very special cars indeed! Agree with you, car is better suited to B roads & quick blasts. Although I enjoyed a Euro trip in my car driving the Ring, Spa, and stopping at Rheims and P Museum, great on a track if you get a chance. Both version's of the RS are very special and are significantly different to one another to suit the application or driving mood you want to experience. Have fun in the car and if you are in SE UK let me know if you fancy a meet.

I’ve owned a 993 RS and driven a 964 RS. The 993 feels more special to me… but that’s just my opinion. The 993 has more power and displacement, stiffer suspension and better stance, and unique bodywork. The gearing is perfected vs a standard 993. The only thing the 993 loses out on the 964 is the seam welded chassis.

sooo for buying… you can buy the total 911 digital magazine, there’s an issue with a buying guide with a lot of information. I’d suggest buying a car with bucket seats as they are hard to find and very expensive on the 2nd hand market. the ones from Japan are actually fitted the speedster seats which have the trampoline insert which makes these seats the best buckets of the era.

I have the bucket seats with trampoline inserts on my 993RS. However, I've had the trampoline insert removed, to improve my driving position (I'm quite tall). It's completely reversible and doesn't cause damage to the seats.

We probably need some pictures of the car, you know, just to be sure!

Car will go to the detailer next week. I'll post some pictures once the cleaning job is done.

It took more time to get the 993RS detailed, pictures taken, etc... But here's the first pic. Consider it a teaser...

Congrats. 993RS is the best 911 I've ever driven.

So here's another pic, in the wild... I have to concur with Wanta997: it is a masterpiece on wheels. Impossible to drive it without a smile on my face..
