Actually, the speed with top up might be appreciably faster. The reason I say this is that I observed about 25.5 mpg with the top up and about 21.5 mpg with the top down on my cross-country trip. So the aerodynamic difference is very significant.

mike - you are correct. the top up is much much faster. however, with that said you also risk ruining the top going 130mph with the windows down. mine didn't seem to have a problem, but if you have a weak top i wouldn't recommend it.

I do have what appears to be weak top latch motors, at least teh driver's side one. I'm investigating it, but it consistently pops up at 90 mph.
I need to borrow a good motor somewhere and try it, it's beginning to drive me nuts. I see them on eBay for $100+, which is not bad, but I'd like to try first. Anyone know of a driver's latch motor out there?
