Cleanest way to remove rear emblem to replace with a silver one
I am thinking about getting the silver colored Carrera emblem for the engine hood for my car and may want to remove the black one. I know it's stuck on with some kind of double-sided tape. What is the best way to remove it without damaging the paint finish and clean off the resulting residue of tape it leaves behind?

Also, it doesn't have to be perfect. I broke mine, and replaced it. I got all the sticky stuff off, but there was still the faintest outline. Rather than buff it into oblivion, the outline makes a great guide to get the new one just right.

Art,
I recently changed my C4S emblem from aluminum look to
stainless steel. Before you start, make precise measurements
of the logo location as these measurements might be needed
for the replacement. I used a hair dryer (minimal heat) to soften
the bonding agent under the emblem and slowly peeled it off.
I removed the remaining adhesive with mineral spirits
(light paint thinner) and used a 3M polishing compound.
Caution should be exercised when removing and polishing.
Work slow to avoid mistakes. Use tape to align the
replacement emblem. There should be a faint outline on the
paint from the old emblem which provides the exact place for
overlaying the replacement. If there's no visible outline, use the
measurements in the first step for alignment.
For removal of the hood emblem, just park your Porsche in
front of my office and some punk will steal it within minutes.
They stole my emblem last week...
Good luck!

About a year ago I removed all the emblems on my GMC YUKON and replaced them with a PORSCHE emblem on the left rear, and a RS emblem on the right. Everyone thought it was the new PORSCHE SUV!
Just a warm hair-dryer, dental floss and fingernails will remove your emblems.
By the way I just replaced the front crest with the Silver crest, looks really good.

I removed my Black Carrera Emblem with Bumper Sticker Remover sold at AutoZone or PepBoys whatever is near you that is similar. Gently pulled up one corner just enough to spray the adhesive remover under there, once I got it started the bumper sticker remover helped pry it right off.
And as someone else stated the outline was left after I removed it. It helped line up the silver emblem.

RJT993 - Robert, What is the part number of that silver crest and approx. what was the cost for it? If I'm going for the "silver" look, I might as well do the front badge hood crest as well.
Viken - Thanks for the part numbers. Maybe you have the part number for the front hood crest in silver as well?

Arthur - Look in Excellence magazine...there are at least two vendos who sell the crest - ByDesign and one other. Also, there is a thread on the silver hood crest either on the 996 or the 996TT board.

There are two vendors that I know of that sell the Silver crest. BY DESIGN, I think their price is something like $125 plus a core charge until you send them your gold crest back. Ralph Boothe sells the same crest for $80 and NO core charge. Both vendors have ads ih EXCELLENCE. I bought mine from Ralph. It looks really good on dark color cars as well as my Artic Silver.
Cheers!

dredging up an old thread... Viken posts above that the C2S had a "steel grey" Carrera emblem. This correlates w/ info from my local dealer. But, did all C2S cars come with the grey emblem? Did it depend on the car color? Or the year? I *think* I remember seeing some C2S's with a black Carrera emblem, with the grey "S"
If you have pics of your C2S showing the rear emblem, could you post? Or just share what color the "Carrera" script is on your C2S (emblem color, car color, year)? Thanks very much.
