Post backsaver tip

I had the car up in the air w. my spiffy new jackstands to change the rear swaybar -- and decided to leave it up while I gave it a once-over with IHG and a fresh coat of Zymol.

Man, it was great! I could sit on my rolling shop stool & roll back & forth along the doors, I didn't have to bend over to do the fenders, the rear bumper didn't require lying on the ground. I finished in record time, wasn't tired at all, my back didn't hurt!

To make things even more wonderful, I didn't have to change the height of the droplink mounts to fit the RS swaybar - no R&R of the rear suspension, no worries of yet another alignment! How often you get a DIY that's simpler than you expected, rather than more & more involved? I'm still basking in the afterglow

I heard about a guy (still trying to meet him directly and confirm he's not an urban Porsche legend) who used to be a Porsche mechanic, and went into orthopaedic surgery. Apparently making big waves because he brings a fresh mechanical perspective, and if you think about it, the mechanics of Porsche suspensions and biomechanics are likely not all that different.

In any case, he builds/races 914s mostly, and has set up a spindle where he (again, potentially urban Porsche legend here) mounts the car and can literally spin it to get whatever angle he wants to work on it the best.

Now THAT would be great. You could apply Zaino from a Barcolounger, and likely get the spindle hooked up to a remote control.

My next house will have a scissor lift along w/ another spot in the garage. I've always been afraid of using one of those Porter Cable polishers. I've heard they work great but with my luck I'd jack up my paint.

Thumbs up

Okay, I've about had it with all of this gunplay. Some of us think that gun is, like, REAL, ya know.

<<<In case anyone misses the undercurrent of sarcasm.

Robert,

1) Did you purchase the shop stool from Griot's ?

2) How did you get the rear off the ground ...did you place wood over the jack saddle and raise from the engine ? Then put both stands in place.

Car looks great, can't wait until weather is warmer in NE for me to do mine.

I usually pull the headlights out to wax/detail the front fenders. I even wipe down the insides of the headlight buckets. I know, I am sick.

Damn makes me sorta wish I could own a gun... They seem real cool (I've spent a small amount of time plinking beer cans etc.), but there are too many other issues surrounding them for me to ever feel comfortable owning one.

Kim--I'm thinking about a scissors lift too.

Cheers,
Chris
