Wink Confused! N ratings on Michelin Pilot Sports?

Hi Everyone,

I've just had Pilot Sports fitted to my car while it had some paintwork done. I'm a bit confused as the fronts have N2 clearly marked on the sidewall but I can't see anything on the back. Have they fitted the wrong tyre? <img border="0" alt="[oops]" title="" src="graemlins/oops.gif" />

Thanks,

David

N rating is Pilot Sports (or other tires for that matter) made to Porsche specific requirements. If your rears have not got N ratings then they are generic Pilot Sports....

Also note, Michelin Pilot Sport Cups (US DOT Race Tires) will not have a N rating. They have not been homologated by Porsche for their street cars. Every little bit of trivia helps!!!!

Hi Guys,

A happy ending... My ever-trustworthy bodyshop are paying for new tyres on the back. Luckily my invoice from them says N2...

Cheers,

David

David,

If you dont mind, how do you find the tyres? And what were you using before as a matter of reference?

Hi Leslie,

They are normal Z-rated Michelin tyres but developed specifically for use on Porsches (hence the N designation on the sidewall). Most dealers should be able to get hold of them.

When I bought the car it had Continentals on the front but Avons on the back which I never felt happy with, especially after sliding off the road! My bodyshop tells me that my rear alignment was out which may explain this.

I'm flying out to Singapore on business on the 22nd March if you fancy meeting up for a drink or recommending places to go, etc.

Cheers,

David

Let us know your schedule, I am sure Leslie and I would be glad to meet up for a drink or two. Mind you I'll be popping into London again towards end of the year for a couple of months.

Leslie,

Have a look at the Pirelli P Zero Corsa's- whilst I am still running the Pilot Sports (N1's in my case), have heard that they are absolutely uncomparable to the Pirelli's (the S03s and Contisports also dont bear mention).

Martin

Pilot Sport Cup tyres (sorry guys - tires!!) are homologated for street use in the UK and are therefore N branded. Michelins recommendations are that the tyre gives great grip for dry or damp conditions but that care should be taken if standing water exists.

My local tyre shop owner (worked for Yokohama as a tyre engineer for years) recommends P Zeros for my 993. Will probably get those fitted when I get round to buying new wheels.

Thumbs up

Hi PJC,

Mine are Pilot Sports and not Pilot Sport Cups. Mine have (or will have when I have the correct ones swapped over) three grooves rather like an F1 pattern on the rear to handle wet weather and are supposed to be pretty good in the wet.

Harold - sorry to miss you on the last post. I'm going to be staying at the Pan Pacific in Singapore from Sunday 23rd until Saturday 29th when I head off to Sydney. I'll PM you.

Cheers,

David

Do you have 17" wheels? I have been looking to buy these tires but cannot locate the 205/50-17 size. The tire rack says they are special order only.
