Question Children and Your Cabriolet....How Young?

My wife and I are thinking about getting a 993 (or appearently a 996 See another thread ) cabriolet for family top down cruising. My darling daughter is 2 yrs old, and we are wondering how she will take to it (after all, we won't be able to strap in a child seat for a test drive). You young are your children, and how do they feel about top down cruising?

Thanks <img src="graemlins/wave.gif" border="0" alt="[byebye]" />

Shark,
My guess is your daughter will like the top down cruising at first but will soon grow tired of it. I bought a ML430 with the Skyroof (about three times the size of a regular sunroof) and at low speeds my daughter likes it but atanything over 40mph there is too much wind. I understand your reasons for wanting a convertible but a coupe has more room in the rear seats. My daughter is almost 4 and we use the Zoom seat in front with airbag disable and the seat fits well in the back if we are all going for a ride.
The 996 probably has more rear room as well, if I was buying a newer 911 cab it would be a 996 (heresy I know) but the hard toneau cover and the lines with the top down are much better.

Shark01,

My daughter is 4 and likes the top down cruising and sometimes when we have the top up she would ask to take it down. I also agree with Greg's comments... at low speeds my daughter likes it but at anything over 40mph there is too much wind in her face and her hair start giving her problems or the wind is simply to strong for her eyes.

More opinions are welcome <img src="graemlins/icon107.gif" border="0" alt="[icon107]" />

Also, with the front seats all the way back, how old can your children be before they outgrow the back seat?

Im 5.6 feet and from my relatively average seating position, I reckon that someone upto 4.10/5.0 feet can sit in the back.

OR You could consider a targa. Best of both worlds.

Make one of the shortest staff in the dealership sit in the back when in the showroom.

Beside the wind, my 7 years old daughter complains about how noisy it is in the back. If we have to use the car going somewhere with her in the back i feel sorry for her as she would become very quiet compared to how active she would be in the van. She even complains about sitting in the back of my SC400 though. I guess she's used to the van. She would love to sit in the front with the top down. If you have to have a Porsche, i would go for the 996 to avoid the pain of using the top in a 993. Leg room is not problem though.

My nieces prefer my rear seats to their dads Merc SL300 AMG rear seats. They find it far more fun and comfy. One is 5, the other is 7.

But then mine is coupe. Dont know about a cab.

Hey Shark,

I seriously suggest you wait until your darling daughter is 17 before you let her drive your new porsche..

After all, I don't think a 2 year old can even reach the peddles.
I am sure she will enjoy the top down cruising..
maybe even some day sans loco parientes....
But until she has her permit.. I'd only let her shift gears for you..

of course i'm just kidding

Good luck with your purchase.
