Renting a 993?
Hey everyone. So looking to pull the trigger on my first Porsche. Problem is I have never driven one, just been driven in one.
I have settled somewhere between the 997 or 993. Problem is I would love to live with a 993 for a weekend just to be sure it's the vibe I am looking for.
Does anyone know of any ways to RENT a 993? I've searched Turo with no luck. I know there are a few on Driveshare but none are near where I am (NYC).
Any other thoughts or suggestions would be welcome and appreciated. Thanks much!

Since you’re in the city, I’d check with Classic Car Club of Manhattan. I think they usually keep a few air cooled porches in the fleet. But you might have to be a member to use them?

Thanks. They do seem to have a 993 but you are right - you do need a membership. I may hit them up anyhow and see if there is a one off they would do. Thanks again!

Since you have settled between a 997 and 993 then you mean 996...I recommend turbo or GT3. surprised no one else said the same.
997 and 993 are so different cars. Do you want something old and slow or something modern? Both are great cars but vastly different and different pricing as well.
watching videos on these cars also can help decide.

@Turbodan
hahaha
You are totally right. They are sooooo different. I've sat in my buddy's 997 and renting one of those to try out is fairly easy.
But I am drawn to the 993. I grew fixing up Hondas and Acuras and that whole scene, so instintcively I think I want the more old school 993. But again I want to be able to have it for a weekend rental and get to know it before I pony up the extra cash for one vs a 997.

Have to admit, this is the 1st time I learn of the feasibility of 'renting' a 993.

You absolutely won't be shunned. None of us were born with a Porsche and we all started this journey somewhere. Over many years I've had the pleasure to meet PCar enthusiasts from different cities and states. To a person everyone has been gracious and kind.

I'm in CT, probably too far for you, but I'd be willing to let you drive mine - not sure about a weekend rental, though.

I would say it should be easy to decide if want modern and fast or old and slow. Pretty simple from my point of view. Great choice whatever you choose. Enjoy the search!

I think it boils down to the maintenance and how much and if I love the 993 more. If it's by a wide margin and I have to have it and live with the higher cost of maintenance, then so be it.
But if I find that I would be perfectly happy with the either, then it might lean me more towards the 997.
Just want a car that is fun to drive in and around the east coast. Very likely no track days.
