Lightbulb Follow up to sagging exhaust tip.

Well - you guys were right on about the clamp/bolt on for the tip. Seems that wasn't the problem. The problem is my muffler is corroded and coming apart which is causing the tip to droop. So it appears I need new mufflers. What do you guys think of the Fabspeed oval tip 993 mufflers? Any suggestions? Thx again

What is corroded - the muffler to tip pipe, the curved clamp fitting, or the exhaust tip section ?

Hi Chris,

It's the muffler to tip pipe section. And it's bad - pretty much the top 180 degrees of it. Bummer.

Do you have a narrow or wide body? I have any extra set of wide body mufflers available.

Oh Oh - too bad, I wouldn't rule out a repair - may be possible and no-one will ever see this section after all ! If not, I would try and source the standard muffler from someone who has changed over - or it would be worthwhile calling around a few shops (try the independent porsche specialists instead of dealers) - I know these guys often keep the used parts like suspension they take off when someone upgrades.

Just curious - did you do a lot of stop-start / short journey type driving, or is your 993 particularly high mileage / driven in winter etc.

Thanks Chris - actually the car is a '95 and only has 31k on the clock. I'm the second owner so i guess the PO must have driven it in some inclement weather.

I thought the whole exhaust system was made from stainless steel. Does this rot??

This is very unusual, this is the first defective factory muffler on the 993 I have ever heard of. The canister itself is made of stainless steel, but the pipes are made with just regular iron steel so it will rust. But hard to imagine that the pipes would rust through with just 31k miles.

Can you take a picture of it? I would love to see how it broke like that.

I put the Fabspeed on my C2S. Build quality was very high and I thought they looked great. Gives the car a nice rumble at idle that is lacking in the stock setup. Nice deeper growl in higher revs, especially if you have motorsound. Only criticism was that I did get resonance at about 2500 revs. This caused a drone that you wouldn't want to listen to for extended time periods. Not a problem for anything but highway cruising.

Cool

Now is the perfect time to install Robin Sun's RSR Mufflers. They are found on lots of RennLister cars, including mine. The sound great.

Another vote for Robin Sun's RSR. Best thing I've done to my car. Mike W 95 993

Noticed in latest Panorama that Autohaus have 993 mufflers FS for $300 - no idea whether this is a good price or not
