Yep, cat bypasses are too loud, what's better?
I installed RSRs and while they sound great, they are a little quiet for my taste. I installed Fabspeed cat bypass pipes yesterday. They have plenty of 'bark', but the nice mechanical sounds, fan, etc. are gone. I drive with my top down 99% of the time and love the fan sound.
So, what would be an alternative? Something a bit louder than the RSRs, but not nearly as loud as the cat bypasses? Something that has a little bark, good burble sounds on decel, but still allows me to hear the fan??

Richard, I currently have fabspeeds on my car, while I have the polished RSRs as coffee table art (while the SO is out of town )
Listen to my car with the fabspeeds in Fontana on Saturday and judge for yourself. ( I'd give them to you to try out, but the outlets are for a widebody (2S/4S).
Edit: Just to clarify-- it is the Fabspeed mufflers (maxi-flo??) that are on my car... stock cat

Agree with Max...try out Supercups. I have a set on mine but right now they are a bit loud and most of the packing is burnt out....have a set of CC Inserts that I need to install one day....so many mods, so little time...

it is a pretty good sound. a slight rumble at idle. good burble when you let off. nice howl (with the motorsound airbox lid) at WOT. There is a slight increase in the drone at about 2700-2900 rpm, but nothing as bad as a set of B&Bs that i heard.
not too obnoxious....not too muted.....might be just the ticket for a cabriolet.

Richard,
You might check out my comments on muffler (not cat) bypass pipes on the 993TT board. I will grant you that they may be louder in a NA car, but they are perfect IMO for a TT. Like you, I had the RSR's before.

Richard.. I was seriously considering going the Fabspeed cap-bypass route; was it just too loud? was it "set off car alarms for miles" loud, or just "set off car alarms in the parking garage" loud?

and do they set off the CEL?
The 96-98 993 has 4 sensors and is OBDII so I get the feeling that the CEL light WILL get triggered without the cats... Someone else can correct me if I'm wrong!

No problem with the CEL on my '95.
Yes, they will set off car alarms for miles. They are *loud*. When I first fired the car up, it reminded me of my Formula Ford from years ago, running a straight pipe. They sound really good at WOT, though... but race-car good, not street-car good. I don't mind a little loud, but these are so loud that everyone turns their heads when you go by. A little too obnoxious for me.
