I don't use them but my cars are stored in a climate controlled garage with no windows.

I would use them if my car was in a garage that got dusty inside or the car was being exposed to UV.

My car sits outside in the summer, so I cover it. No one, or thing, is tougher than the sun

Never liked the idea of dragging fabric across paint. Dirt trapped under cover or on top of paint acts like sandpaper. The downside outweighs the upside IMHO.

The right kind of car cover in the right conditions: Yes
The wrong kind in the wrong conditions: No

I do use one of those soft, stretchy, indoor use only fitted car covers on my 993. It is also kept in a garage, and is not used on the car if the car is dirty (results in scratching).

I store my car in a dedicated car storage facility in winter. Cover goes on before storage and comes off months later. While there aren't many people coming in and out of the storage unit as it's limited access, putting a cover on and whatever small swirls/scratches it introduces is well worth it given that it protects from someone walking past with a watch on, for instance, really scratching the paint.

But I don't put one on weekly in between drives. It's something I use to protect the car from people walking past it. So the pros of the cover, real protection, outweigh the cons, light swirls.

Only cover a perfectly clean car.

I use a flannel cover for winter storage

goes on in the winter and comes off in spring

gets washed and bagged in between seasons

been doing this on black cars like the 928 for 32 years

Before I cover my car, it gets washed and dried. Brake dust is a killer on paint.
I use a flannel cover in the garage.

I decided to get the moving blanket cover for inside the heated garage over the winter. I clean and wax the car at the end of the season and if the cover comes off twice all winter that’s a lot. The slightly padded cover should protect it from the perils of an active garage.

Now if I can only get COVERKING to send me a properly sewn cover lol. Can’t make it up.

I also use a cover over winter but it’ll only last like a week or two before I take it off. I just love looking at the beautiful lines.

Thanks for all the replies. So as I like to look at my car I will not cover it. It is in a climate controlled garage with no windows.

Regards Christian

Absolutely and purchase a very good car cover too. Besides protecting it from accidental damage of various forms. It keeps the dust to a minimum and your wax will last longer due to reduced exposure to the elements.
