Hey guys, speaking of these, does anyone offer leather boot replacement on the shift **** itself? It seems to be integrated/all one piece. I just purchased a '97 C2 and it came with the same handbrake and shift ****.
I decided I'd rather have the simple, all-black handle.
Erik,
Thank you for the offer - PM sent.
Andreas
You're welcome.
For fun as I was looking for that brake handle I remembered I had all of the literature for 993's so looked at how much they cost from Porsche back in the day... $850 new. Wow, surprised so many were sold.
Kicking myself for not pulling mine out a couple of weeks ago 😕.
Were there 2 different PNs for the Tequipment Aluminum 993 Shift ****? My car has the Y06 Option and looks like 911Jeff's in post #15, just mine is not CF.
The shifter **** in post #4 is clearly a different shape that I don't think was a 993 shifter.
There is a lot of demand for these items. Given the commitment from Porsche with classic parts I wouldn't be surprised to see these reproduced at some point in the future.

Same here. I didn't want any silver parts in my interior. Took mine apart, powdercoated the pieces and filled the lettering in white. Also upset some people, I'm sure.
In hindsight, I plan to redo the shift pattern in satin black to provide some contrast against the mini-wrinkle black. Will be making a run to the powdercoater soon enough.
Definitely do not try to pry on it as it will not help and you will definitely destroy both aluminum parts on the shifter. To take it apart, follow theses steps:
Remove the entire shift ****/boot from the car:
push down on left side of boot base to remove from two clips in console
slide base of boot to the left to "un hook" it from right side of console
angle boot base to remove it from opening in console base
lift boot up to expose allen screw at from side of shift ****
loosen allen screw to remove shift ****/boot from car
With the shift boot/**** out of the car:
Use a heat gun to warm up the glue (epoxy) which is holding the shift pattern insert (apply heat directly to top)
Take a long, skinny screw driver and insert it up through the shifter shaft opening
You will want to move it around until you feel it enter a small hole in the larger aluminum piece and make contact against the bottom of the shift pattern. (see the circled opening in pics below)
With the screw driver held securely in that hole, bang out the pattern (gripping the underside of the shifter while holding the screwdriver and banging the screw driver base against the floor or workbench will make it pop off)
Once the shift pattern insert is removed, it will expose two screws which hold the second part to the rest of the shifter/leather covering

Thank you for posting this. I wonder if one could make a "replica" of these parts once it is disassembled using the originals as the templates. With milling, CNC and 3D printing it seems like someone who has the resources or know how could. I'm not sure of the economics of it but as mentioned there seems to be demand and then they can be customized, finished and wrapped in materials of choice.

Maybe purists might not "like it" but I think it looks great!
