Option Codes
The car I am getting has the following option codes:
240 Version for countries with inferior fuel (What's the story with this???)
329 Radio - ?
330 Radio Blaupunkt Toronto SQR 46, All models, not for USA
408 18" Technology Design Wheels [1996]
437 Comfort seat left
438 Comfort seat right
445 Wheel Rim Caps with Porsche Crest
454 Automatic speed control
C02 Equipped with catalytic converter
Then there are a few I cannot decode:
L92M, LT and 850.
Anyone aware of what those are ?
Seems the car doesn't have LSD. Kind of a bummer. Is it really worth it to have the LSD ??

option code link...
Agro,
I believe the L92M , LT codes refer to your paint/interior colors..in this case, Polar Silver Metallic and the LT is the black interior.
Here's the links to the option codes for colors:

M329 is CR-210 which is AM-FM/Cassette Radio. M330 is CR-31 from '97-on. M850 is likely M650 which is sunroof. The 6 often looks like an 8.
How can you have two radios in one car? Are you sure the codes are being read properly?

Viken - yeah, the codes are exactly that. I know its strange, but I also found the same thing on another 993 that I looked at...
Mike - It may have been destined for elsewhere and got routed to the US. It's build date is 10/13/95. Carfax says nothing about where/when it was imported into the US. It was bought in LA, as a lease and has only had one owner, per Carfax. I guess the PO bought out the lease at the end of it's term.
Does anyone know what that "240 - Version for countries with inferior fuel" could mean ??

Chris - Not yet. Some final details need to be ironed out before I take it, but TruSpeed seems to be very willing to take care of everything. As long as that happens, I will buy it this weekend, or next week after Hergesheimer does the valve job and a few other minor things.

Agro man,
Congrats on the car. Come out to California Speedway this weekend and you can see all the fun you will be able to have with the car. While you are at Hergies, slap on a set of PSS9s, some 993RS sway bars, some ERP monoballs, the Evo uprights and RS tie rod ends, RS motor pounts, RS tranny mount, RS shifter rod and shifter....you'll be ready to rock. Mark can also fabricate a roll bar for you, install Aasco heavy duty valve springs.
Might as well het 5 point belts both sides...etc.
Come on Luke, do your part to keep the economy ticking!!!!

Agro, there was a discussion on fuels and octane numbers about a week ago and this code was mentioned. Try to find it.
If I understand correctly, the timing might be somewhat retarded so the car doesn't knock on lower octane fuel.
Now, this would be a patently bad thing for a track car. Unless the ECU in those cars is capable of wider range of timing adjustments (the question begs, however, why not have it on all cars than?). So that's why I would investigate it much further if I were you. On the other hand, you guys in Cali have 91 as the highest pump gas, so this might work in your favor (I'm being serious here).
Does the car feel like it has power similar to other 993s?
When was is sold orogonally? In other words, how long did it take to get from the factory to the dealer? Than again, if Carfax doesn't complain, it can't be a gray import. Strange.

I usually mix my own fuel to bring the octane up to more respectable levels than what we see at the pumps here in CA. I keep a 55 gal drum of 76 100 octane unleaded in my garage. I only do this for performance cars, not daily drivers.
Your point is well taken and I intend to investigate it further. I'm sure the guys at Hergesheimer will be able to shed some light on the subject and advance the timing if necessary when the motor is out for the valve job. It's my understanding though, that the 993 will automatically advance or retard timing +/- 3 degrees depending on the fuel being used.
Still - it makes me wonder...

A basic question but is your VIN one that indicates the car is not grey marketed? I.e., a WPOAA etc.?
