One of these?

Santa came early this year and I need nothing else. A bit light headed from the experience.

No I did not get an RSR but boy do I wish I did. I did have the opportunity to spend a few days up close and personal with a gorgeous RSR 3.8. AFAIK one of 2 in the US and signed off by the factory. Never campaigned but has been Club Raced at one time.

I am a huge 964 3.8 RS/RSR fan but the 993 RSR 3.8 is just draw dropping in every way and would be hard pressed to choose. There may be faster and better but who cares.

I have detailed pictures but need to post over time, as I am busy with other things. For now. I'll leave you with a teaser.

And yes it is the same car.

What a feeling it must be for a 993 to feel dangerous like that.

Living at 7,000+ I am down at least 20% power and looking forward to the next posting at sea level.

That exhaust sound is intoxicating. Please post more pics and details of this beast soon.

AFAIK or so I am told there is one other in this condition owned by Seinfeld in the US, the others were all campaigned cars so have been modified from how they left the factory from one degree to another. This is mostly all original with some mods but not many from what I can tell. I know these use the RS brakes although this car has adapters to fit larger front rotors. There are some things that I found interesting and am a bit confused why the factory left some stock parts in place although not used. I also like how the tail fits into the pop up wing opening precisely.

I am not sure where to begin there is so much of interest. The car was not running when it arrived but that was quickly fixed. Being a 97 I was surprised to see the OBDI port on the right hand side as in the earlier 964 and '95 993's. I brought my hammer to plug in but didn't have time yesterday to do so. So we will try today or Monday. Not sure what if anything will be read so we will see.

Surprisingly the car is fitted with stock heater boxes which aren't attached to anything. I would have expected that they removed the box and just left the headers but apparently not. These are the things you won't see on the campaigned cars I suspect. I always find these little nuances interesting.

The transmission is a G50/34. I usually rely on Bill's extensive knowledge and charts for gearing info but he only has the info on the RS's G50/31, G50/32 and the G50/33. He also lists the gearing for the GT2EVO G50/54 so what the gearing is I have no idea. I shopped out the serial number if anyone is concerned. Clearly it is an LSD trans. This car is also running a wider tire than the RS with 235/295 combo same as I use on my 94 turbo.

I have lots more and will post later but have to move on today.

On a side note and another distraction. A friend showed up with another unique car. He has quite the collection himself with Peter Gregs personal 74 spotomatic 911. He also owns a 66 911R prototype and just showed up with this 912 prototype. These are all 5 vin number cars and the 911R and this 912 are from a series IIRC of 8 prototypes and the R and 912 are just 5 digits apart. Again I shopped out the last digit but there are 5 and as you cans see the Vin plate reads 356 so being made most likely in 65 or early 66. A friend who is an expert on 356 and early 911's stopped by and we agree that most of the car other than the obvious body work is original. The car will get a light restoration to fix some poor work done decades ago but most of the patina will remain. You can see all the panels are marked with the vin number like the headlight bucket. As much as I am focused on the 993 this is of equal interest to me. What the factory did is interesting to learn about. You can see the custom made engine mount for the prototype and I am assuming since it used the 356 engine that is the reasoning for the marking on the plate. Although just speculation. The factory did not do well with 911 sales early on and the 912 was a Hail Mary in hopes to make a cheaper car that would sell.

For reference here is a 69 912 we need to get up and running. You can see the vin plate change and the factory production engine mount.

Gorgeous. I always thought that the flares were limited to the GT2. Do the RSRs start as a wide body car?

That is a good question and will look into it. I am thinking possibly since it has similar access port to the oil filter the Wide body cars had but will see if I can figure out if it is WB or not.

I have cars to work on so will post again later tonight if I have the time

I just caught this before leaving but is that correct? My friend built a near perfect clone to a GT2 out of a 993TT right down to the magnesium centered speedlines and we were always told the GT2 was built on the NB platform.
