Very possible- i never took the time to figure it out- I just had it removed and replaced with stock and have been VERY happy. I don't race the car so I didn't care about short shifts.

Gosh, I can see that.

If you still have it, I’m sure you could sell it they cost around $1600 new.

Fister SSK with the Golden rod..... AND.... RS engine mounts. The engine mounts make a big difference, they are not expensive to purchase and installation is relatively easy.

Yes! The engine and gearbox rotates and changes the shift pattern in a subtle way. Solid mounts even better but pretty noisy.

I used solid in my 964 chassis and things were OK but in my 993 solid mounts transmitted more vibration, so I changed to RS.

I am not mechanically inclined, but I am very lucky to have a great shop about a half hour from my house. Dan Jacobs LLC and his son Baron are just phenomenal air cooled mechanics. Long story short, I drive my car on the road, and I wanted it to handle better but not be track harsh, to shift better than stock, remove some of the slop, perhaps make it a little edgy. They just did H&R springs which dropped the car to ROW height, I had new green Porsche classic shocks that we kept, we swapped the tires to Pilot sport two's, did the RS motor mounts and as Dan put it gave it a 'proper" alignment. I'm riding on 17 inch cup two rims. The car is as planted as can be, handles beautifully and remains perfectly comfortable in CT country roads. As we said the motor mounts also made the shift linkage feel more precise. The mounts also allow a mechanical sound into the cabin that is different than the exhaust but turns the air cooled music up a notch. I've had the Fister 2 mufflers for almost a year now. Funny how they are beginning to sound tame.

Now that is a shifter!

Good point. I too have FD SSK/GR and RS mounts. Does seem like the RS mounts help.

I just ordered the following parts to overhaul the shift linkage on my 993:
  • FD Front end rod
  • Rothsport SSK
  • FD Goldenrod

I choose the Rothsport over the FDM one because it is machined from 6061 aircraft alloy and anodized. Also, unlike the factory and FDM shifters, Rothsport shifters are double shear instead of single shear providing a more precise superior shifting feel. It also shortens the throw by one inch.

I’ll let you know how the upgrade goes as I’m getting the parts installed after Thanksgiving holidays.

What Aluminum shifter ball did you use?

Thanks,

One comment - the throws of the SSK aren’t that “short”. If you’re looking for a really notchy and short shift, the FD SSK might not meet your needs. I hate to make any comment that seems even mildly critical because overall the modifications are awesome and worth every penny.
Agree with all of this.

I took pieces from three different short shifter kits to create 'my' custom shifter. Works great and feels perfect for me. The shifter **** is at the exact height and position that I like.

Good Luck and enjoy!!!!!!!

I did the FD goldenrod, OEM RS SSK, IX XI shifter with 917 style ball in walnut/maple and the Swine11 reboot. Love it.

One thing I feel is helpful is to follow the FD Motorsports advice and replace the two slide tube support bushings they sell. My car had a very sloppy shifter at first and on inspection I found one of the metal rings to have fallen out with age. See photo, shamelessly stolen from FD Motorsports website.

Also there are 6 small plastic bushings inside the shifter itself that are easy to replace, part Nr. 999.924.002.40 and 4 plastic bearings for the main tube part Nr. 964.424.115.00
